A1200 Floppy Issues
« on: June 23, 2009, 09:24:22 PM »
So, I have a NOS A1200 1D4 board (NOS is arguable--it's slightly bowed and the shielding on the connectors is oxidized, while the board I'd been using for the last ten years looks brand new), and every floppy drive I attach to it seeks three times then fails to read the inserted disk. I've seen the issue posted before, but without an accompanying resolution. Any ideas?

Make sure your using the correct cable without twist. Try another cable. Can you format a floppy, if you can format and read a floppy but cannot read original floppy disks the Drive may be out of alignment. If however you say you tried multiple drives I would think all should not be misaligned.

Yeah, I've tried multiple known good drive and cable combinations. I think formatting a floppy produced the same result--three seeks followed by an error from the format tool--but I'll try it again just to be sure. But yeah, I don't think it's an alignment issue.

Does it work if you write protect the disk?
My A3k will use write protected disks fine... If I stick in one that does not have write protect on, it will do as you describe. And further, once the disk has been inserted without write-protect, it is ruined... (well on my machine anyway)

The write protect tab doesn't make a difference.
