Do BBS SITES still exist????
« on: June 07, 2009, 11:25:16 PM »
I was just wondering whether anybody out there is running a simple old style BBS that people could dial in and connect to?  Nothing complicated, just an AMIGA at someones home allowing people to connect and download files, play simple games, etc.  I remember how a measley 2400 baud modem seemed pretty darn quick.

Do a search on google for telnet BBS's ....

There are loads of them , hundreds if not thousands and no need for an old dial up modem , just your internet connection .

I was running one up until last year .

I figured they were on the internet.  I was wondering if there were any that were not on the internet.  Just a single person offering connection directly through phone line.  There was no need for a browser at all and there were no slow downs.  Connecting an older Amiga on the internet can be sort of slow.

if i had an amiga that could remain stable for more than a few hours, i'd be tempted to connect the serial port to one of my servers and make it accessible via telnet.

As has been mentioned there are Internet based BBS systems. I really don't know about Amiga ones, but if you are a C= 8bit user there are plenty that might be of interest and the experience is the same as the old days. Q-Link is back and you use the original software to access it. There are quite a lot single line BBS out there also.

Once you get set up, the method for access all these are the same. Use same old terminal software, hear the same old modem dialing sounds. BBS experience is the same. The Sysops of these boards are dying for users.

None internet connected? That will be though to find.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I miss the old dial up BBS communities.  It was great fun.

How active is the Quantum Link community? Is anyone actively working on replacing/appending the client communication bits with uIP/RRNet code?
