Parasites in the Amiga market!!!
« on: December 08, 2002, 04:31:25 PM »
Actually looking at the title it could be about another known topic, but it's not. :-D
I just wanted to say that I found out there are people at Amibench and eBay reselling Amiga hardware that sells cheap. How lame! When they see a bargain they buy it and sell it later for a higher price, the ####ing losers! There are some good bargains sometimes that would be good for people to keep using the Classic for sometime, but these people prefer to ruin it all for money. Get a life! Exploit the second hand PeeCee market!

I hate to break it to you, but these people are everywhere.

Me and my sister used to scour fleamarkets to find used designer furniture for our homes (got some good bargains as well), because these things cost way too much in the secondhand stores.

After having been to quite a few of these stores and getting to know the owners, it seems that there is always one or two of them present at every fleamarket we go to. They rush in and buy every designer item for at least the double amount of what anyone else would pay for it (at a fleamarket, that is).
And then they sell it in their stores or online auctions for 5.000-10.000% of what they paid for it.

I hate that  :destroy:

Guys,

This is not parasitic.  This is business.  This is free enterprise.  Why should someone buy something only to sell it for what they have in it?  Are you suggesting that people should never buy anything with the intent to sell?  Guess we need to close all the dealers down then.

@ ›Jose

Get›a grip mate....

If your not prepared to pay what someone is asking for something
then dont bid on it.
If the starting price is to high then the seller wont beable to
sell it anyway.
People are not that stupid and know what they are prepared to pay
for something.

Sounds to me you just want to pick something up
but are not prepared to put your hand in your pocket.

I recently sold a can of Amicoke from WOA99 for £8 and
OS3.5 for £36.
These were the finishing prices, so its what people
were prepared to pay, not what i asked for it.

supply and demand and all that.

Well yes, but we're talking second hand stuff here.
IMO these people are wannabe businessmen, who prey on people without (many) other options than to buy it from them.

And regarding my furniture thing: The items i'm talking about were originally made in my country (Denmark) so most of what's left of it (from the 40's, 50's and 60's) is of course here. But it's being snatched up by these people and being sold off to Japan and USA for incredible prices I (and many others) can't keep up with.
These designers are a part of our cultural heritage, and now all their (old) stuff is being exported so that some Japanese or American (no offence : ) executive can have trendy furniture.
It's just not right.

Anyways, rant over : )

Sorry for wandering off from the topic

Ive sold stuff on auctions sites (including Amiga gear) to make money and i dont see anything wrong with it at all! its not like you HAVE to buy what people sell on auction sites.

@Blomberg

I understand your position, but it really comes down to one thing.  If you could purchase the items and make obscene amounts of money from them, you'd do the same.  I know I would.

Now, the unavoidable fact is that if things mean that much to you, you will simply have to cough up the money for the items in question.

It's the same principle as Pokemon cards here a while back in the US.  Supply and demand.  Suppliers will price merchandise at whatever people are willing to pay.

@jose,
its a good job there is the likes of ebay, because sometimes you can replace a broken piece of
hardware quite cheaply most of the time.
And dont forget the software! bloody hell most of the prices i see for amiga gear makes them  as cheap as chips.

as we say in brum \\"yow allright mate\\"

Ok, I was just pissed off, cause I had a bargain and someone did that :-x  I don't think it's like dealers though, dealers at least add support and service. But I see the other point, free market and stuff, easy, just wait for another bargain...the demand establishes the value. It must be one of the most useless ways of making money though, they provide no additional service, just resell it! And given the state of the Amiga market and good faith of some sellers thinking they're "giving" it to other Amiga users, supporting the Amiga comunnitty or something it doesn't make it a very honourable (?) way of making money...
Ok maybe I'm just pissed off :-D

As long as you're selling a good product I
say jack it up. I never mind paying a bit extra
if I'm certain of the quality.

@Jose
I understand, I've been pissed off plenty of
times for that reason. Especially on E-bay.
