24 Khz Video Monitor any use for Amigas?
« on: June 05, 2009, 01:06:45 AM »
I ve just found a 24 Khz and up LCD monitor. The question is, Will it be any good to use without a scandoubler on a Classic Amiga? Which monitor driver and mode will you recommend me to use with it on an 040 AGA Amiga?

Hope someone can elighten me :)

Not so useful.  You need 15khz for games and most non-scandoubled, non-Multisync WorkBench modes.

Super72 is a 24KHz mode, so that might work for Workbench.

erm Why did monitor manufacturers drop the 15khz scan in the first place?
Weren't there heaps of consoles that could have used it instead of a blurry SD TV?

Personally I find the best monitor driver to be Multisync + VGA Only....it looks pretty good esp when using an IndivisionAGA :)

Erm - what exactly is the difference between SDTV and 15 kHz supposed to be?

15 kHz were dropped when demand dropped and went to higher scan rates instead.

If it's capable of 27.5, DblPal sould be good for the Desktop, but limit the number of desktop colours to maintain speed unles you have extra Gfx options over & above AGA.

You would still need a Flicker Fixer/Scan Doubler to play 15Khz based games & Apps though!
