Ferrule Media software developement
« on: January 05, 2009, 05:11:27 PM »
To help boost the amiga-spirit in 2009 i would like to give some information that hopefully will inspire the amigausers on this site!

I'm one of the founders of Ferrule Media (www.ferrule-media.no), a new company that is developing software and information-channels to be used in dentistry. We are now in the early process of releasing our software in Norway and Denmark. I'm a dentist of profession and an ex amiga-demoscene-graphician.

We do all our development using OS4/OS4.1 and Hollywood/Hollywood Designer

Ferrule Media has at the moment finished two projects:

Project 1 :

Dental Kanal - an informationchannel to be used in dentists waitingroom. At the moment we cover 23 topics about dentistry. These topics are displayed to the patients while they wait for their treatment.

Project 2 :

Dental Info - a program that helps the dentist in the process of informing patients while they get their treatment in the dental-chair. This is done by offering a series of illustrations to cover both problems and treatment of different topics in dentistry.

On our homepage www.ferrule-media. it is possible to download demos of our programs to Windows and macOS. There are also lots of screenshots of the graphical userinterface and design. (and remember that everything is made using amigaOS 4 / 4.1 and Hollywood Designer). The homepage is available in norwegian and danish.

We presented Dental Kanal and Dental Info to the public in December08 with great success! We believe that 2009 will become an interesting year.

In the end I would like to send some special grettings to Andreas Falkenhahn!. Andreas has done a superb job developing his products Hollywood and Hollywood Designer. With his software we are able to produce software using amigas an then simply compile versions to support windows, macos in addition to all flavors of amigaOS. It is really amazing!

I do hope that more users will buy SAM, OS4.1 and Hollywood / Hollywood Designer and see what it has to offer!

best regards

I have often thought about how good hollywood is for such a job. How do you connect to a database? Great news by the way :-)

Hi there!

I'm afraid i don't know the answer to your question!

If you want to try out the demos I will give you some hints :

Dental Kanal : The pc/mac-demos on the homepage are in a lower resolution than the actual product. The correct resolution is 1366 * 768.

Dental Info : the demo is limited to only show illustrations about dental-Implants. Here is some info about how to get the most out of the software :

The mainscreen will show you the 16 topics - 8 topics on each page, and you switch the page by pressing the large arrows.

By pressing a topic you will enter the illustrations :

1) If you click on an illustration it will "zoom" in or out - it will come in handy if the patient sits far from screen.

2) On the illustration-screen you will see a "ferrule media"-logo on the bottom to the right. If you click on the logo you will enter a new meny with an overview of all illustrations present at the given topic, with written descriptions to each picture. This is added to give the dentist an overview of what illustrations are present, and learn how to use the program quicker.

3) On the main-screen there is a info-button - by pressing this you will enter a limitied version of our homepage.

Best regards

Ingen internett-tilkobling.

To non-norwegian speaking people: It´s updated by shipping a CD.

This makes some sense, since some dentists might not have a network available.

But a network aware version should be feasible, so I guess they could perhaps make it in a later version - for an upgrade fee ;-)

Cool product. My sister is a "tannpleier", currently re-educating herself to be a "tannteknikker" - so I´ll tip her off to it.

Keep it up Ferrule Media Software!

Great news.  I do network infrastructure and have done over 100 dental, endodontics and doctor offices and know the software they use here in the US well including softdent, dentrix, TDO and more and it would be wonderful to have an Amiga developed software package available.  Since the Amiga was originally funded by Dentists wouldn't it be great to see it move into that field again.  Good luck and i would love to test a English version of this software.  Cheers!!!

Ahh okay..
It was just me thinking, that if you want the information to be updated "on-the-fly" it would be almost necessary with some sort of SQL DB connection.
With out one, I am not sure I can convince my company to invest in the new amiga... :(

A small four part system could be developed:

1) SQL Lite DB holding the content for the application

2) A network pull routine checking Ferrule Media softwares server for content updates for a particular customer, which then updates the content locally to #1

3) A disk push routine to dump the SQL data as Hollywood files to local disk

4) A Mac/Windows service module to invoke #2 and #3 at a set interval

Now, Ferrule Media Software could partner with Airsoft Softwair to make a "Hollywood PRO" which incorporates #1, #2 and #3. Then Ferrule Media simplifies maintenance of their software seeing as #4 exists for atleast Mac and PC.

-- EDIT ---
Looking at it again, I see that #1 can be dropped. And #3, and just write it straight to disk from Ferrule Server. But SQL lite could bring some robustness and versioning locally for the dentist.

Hi there!

When a dentist gets his Dental Kanal it is customized to meet his demands. The machine will only be updated if the Dentist wants to change the information. Since all Dental Kanals are different it is easier to update them by shipping a CD.

We will have a customized version for dental hygienists aswell (spesiell versjon for tannpleiere). It should be finished within the next couple of months.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hi there!:)

Thanks for your feedback!

It should not be very hard to make English versions of our products, and I do hope it will be produced eventually. However, we have no network at the moment to distribute the products in the USA / UK.
