OS4 and MorphOS Beta versions of PCMCIA network drivers
« on: July 06, 2008, 02:19:06 AM »
Beta versions of prism2.device and etherlink3.device (a replacement for 3c589.device) that support PCMCIA cards under AmigaOS4 and MorphOS are now available for download. Thanks must go to Chris McGonagle for testing several versions of the OS4 drivers on a PPC-equipped A1200 as I don't have such hardware.

Be sure to install the provided 68k pccard.library in LIBS:. Further information about installation, compatible cards and contact details can be found in the older prism2 and 3c589 archives on Aminet.

download here.

Well done !

Now,where is the AROS version ? :-P
AmigaOS or MorphOS on x86 would sell orders of magnitude more than the current, hardware-intensive solutions. And they\\\'d go faster. --D.Haynie

Good job.
 Should we hope for a cnet.device, as well?

Not from me. cnet.device is maintained by others. A PPC-native MorphOS version is already distributed on the MorphOS PowerUP CD.

 Too bad because the others doesn't seem to be willing to make a OS4 or MOS version.. Anyway, if you are up to it the source code is available in the main archive:

 Yes. Iirc, an older, MOS-native version made by Piru is included, but it's useless for some 100MB cards, as they only work with the new cnet16.device which is included in the link above.

@ncafferkey

I didn't realise you wrote 3c589.device - I was using that for years on my A1200 (and always mention it when people bring up PCMCIA network cards, as the first response is "you need one compatible with cnet.device" and 3c589 always gets overlooked)

I now use prism2.device on OS4.  I think I owe you a pint!

Excellent work as always Neil.

One question though. Your prism2.device for PCI cards also with the new release of MorphOS 2.0, will be also compatible with it? Because on 1.7 version you said that Pegasos will be no longer supported due to problems. So this is a Pegasos-related problem or MorphOS? :-?  :-?

Thanks. I can't be sure what the exact problem is with using the PCI cards in the Pegasos II. It could have been a MorphOS problem with the Pegasos II's PCI bus (the card works in the Pegasos II with Linux 2.4 but not with 2.6). I did read one report that it worked properly on the Pegasos I. I haven't tried MorphOS 2.0 yet.
