jokes aside, I think a moderator should be able to see something from every angle and not put his or hers opinion into the decision wheter to keep posts free or to change them,

You shouldn't be amazed at how difficult that is.

For starters, if I'm on any of the sides in the AOS/MorphOS/AROS split, I'm more inclined towards AOS.  Because I know what troll posts irritate me to a certain extent, I know they'll irritate the more rabid AOS fans far more.  However, I'm not a MorphOS/AROS fan, so I don't know what kind of comments would irritate me (beyond the obvious '.... is a load of crap', or something), so I tend to let another moderator pick up on those.  I might draw other moderators' attention towards particular potentially-suspect posts as well.

(Hypothetically speaking now) Then, the balance needed is altogether different.  From that perspective, AO staff ought to be 'aligned' to different sides to begin with to provide a balance.

(More reality speaking now) I think the above paragraph needs to be part of our (AO staff's) focus in finding a new moderator.

All of that aside, I try my best to be an 'outside onlooker' to content in these forums.  I try to judge them from how a techie stumbling on this website would think of the forum content.

;-) That would be the best approach, I think.

:cry: The position is tempting, and I feel somewhat qualified because it involves skills that I use to make a living, but I'd have to place myself in the "not enough time" camp.

:-? Actually, now that I think about it, how much time per day / week does the positon require?

I don't spend that much time on amiga.org (I think)... if I'm not getting involved in particularly deep discussions, I think it comes down to about an hour a day, two all in all if I am posting more than a couple of comments.  Moderation is generally done quite quickly, the occasional discussion with other staff.

Even the "hour a day" estimate is amongst my usual visits to other techie/news sites.  If I do any moderation, I keep an eye on that thread a bit more.

Hope you find your new moderator, Kees.

It would be interesting, if I didn't have a couple of stars (the
real, gasseous variant) to look out for at the same time ... ;-)

I thought it was Monty from Withnail and I at first, hence my post above

It's out of the episode "Private Plane" in Blackadder Goes Forth.  That's where I know it from anyway.  The one with Rick Mayall (sp?) and the other guy out of the series Bottom.  Very funny episode.

The top quote is from Red Dwarf (fourth series, I think, were we first meet Ace Rimmer). The lower one, you are quite correct, is Ade Edmonson as the "What a poof!" German Air Ace from Blackadder goes fourth :-)

Blackadder and Red dwarf are both avaiable on DVD now :-D

:-) Thanks for the vote of confidence, sir.  I'll think about it.  At an hour or so per day, it should be feasible.

@All:
:-? What do you think?

@Kees:
:-? How long before the decision is made?
