AmiKit 1.4.4 and new WinUAE add-on
« on: February 03, 2008, 01:40:24 PM »
The AmiKit turns your Windows (or Linux) machine into high-end Amiga environment. With AmiKit you can surf the web, read emails and documents, listen to or create your own music, burn CD/DVDs, edit images, play games and much more. AmiKit features a powerful file management solution: Directory Opus Magellan II.

We've done all the hard work for you. Once AmiKit is installed, all the basics are in place so that your system will be immediately usable. On a typical computer the installation should take you less than 10 minutes (check the requirements, please).

Free download available at http://www.amikit.amiga.sk/

AmiKit 1.4.4 Live update (Feb-2008):

    * ADDED:  amrss 5.57, the RSS reader by Alfonso Ranieri  (AmiKit:Internet/amrss)

@amije

I understand the meaning behind your comment but not why.  Is AmiKit sub-par?  Does it contain spyware?  If you could explain your reasons I think it would be helpful.  Personally, I think projects like this and Amiga In a Box are great.  Trying to put all the pieces together yourself is a mess for an Amiga novice.

I would not worry to much about it, Amikit is a great piece of work.
But remember some people just cant be pleased, they seem to want miracles and all for nothing.

Easy guys. I think he just misinterpreted the "keep walking" comment or something.

Btw. what do you think about amrss, the RSS reader? It looks like a nice handy tool. I've added as many Amiga feeds into its config as I found.

Yes I downloaded ther latest update to Amikit and took a quick look at that prog, it does look pretty good.
I will have to give it more time to see just what it can or can not do.
Not trying to start any thing here, but if this gets out of hand then just to let you know I know a few people who hace acces to some nuclear weapons, and a few catapults.

Sorry, in the US "keep walking" can mean "don't look at it just keep moving and pretend it wasn't there"

I tried to install it and got a pretty AmiKit wallpaper in WinUAE and 100 percent CPU usage.  I'll try it on a different computer next.

Setup was pretty easy what with the ROM finder and acceptance of multiple types of source discs for the OS (Amithion, Amiga Forever, etc..)

No, no flame war here.  Just needed clarification on what he said.  No worries mate.

slobu, I believe there are options in WinUAE to control the amount of CPU time allocated to idle emulation, however you are quite right - the only time I hear my laptop's fan spin-up is when running WinUAE.

Cheers,
James

100 percent CPU usage

That's OK. In default configuration all the CPU power is dedicated to WinUAE. You can change it, of course. Check this site: http://winuaehelp.vware.at/
