Usually, going "Gold" means you have reached a certain number of sold units (half a million?).

In AmigaLand, it means announcing that your product is nearly released.

Going gold is a pretty standard phrase in the software industry, moreso with games, though. Blizzard (used to) use it all the time for their impending releases.

I think it's only the music industry that uses it to chart number of sales.

jay miner must have working from beyond the grave. it's hard coding when you're a poltergeist in training. keys are hard to press!

whatever reason it took so long i'm looking forward to some hardware? any news on serious hardware development. (i still remember my dreams of the amijoe...) i'm not willing to buy an xbox and sony's backware compatabilty issues have annoyed me. so maybe there'll be something worth buying soon? here's hoping.

Ummm.....So what?

It's almost if like they waited to see if Amiga, Inc would just go bankrupt first so they could keep all the profits and the brand or something.

I don't know, but none of my computers will run this and there are no computers I can buy to run this, so in my world, it might as well simply not exist.

So I guess they will HOPE to find solid developers who happen to have computers that will run this so they can spend another year developing software in hopes that the other 12 people who can possible run the OS and resulting software will buy it.

This is really such a pathetic non-win.

I can't believe I'm actually saying it, but I'm actually interested in this so-called Amiga OS 5.0.  At this point I have a much stronger chance or running it than I will ever have or running 4.0.

Dang!

Its a shame according to the list of supported hardware none of my Mediator supported PCI cards will work with it. I may as well just get a used A1 if I wanted to run this this. They say its lack of DMA support, but as far as I know the A3000 and A4000 versions do support this if you got the updated chips.

It should be possible to use them when you only use the
Elbox drivers for all installed PCI boards.

You can test it by removing the gfx card from the Mediator,
when the Elbox Ethernet/Sound/USB drivers dont use the
"DMA to PCI gfx board memory" trick they will work without
gfx board. If it really works (I doubt it) any info
about exact Mediator type/version, Mediator chip version,
PCI driver versions are welcome.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Oh did I laugh when I saw this .. I just popped in to see what is happening in the old Amiga community and there was this nugget.

There must be oh 100 working PPC classic machines around these days ?  Why the hell didn't the numpties release it years ago ?  Why wait for the market to get even smaller ... or have I missed something and there is a new PPC card coming out ? (or maybe they are just going to charge $500 a copy ? :-)

Makes me chuckle to think that the C64/128 hardware scene is more active than the amiga :-)

Oh well .. be nice to read the reviews and see if it was worth the wait.

Regards!

If Amiga, Inc. and Hyperion weren't in the middle of a lawsuit evaluating Hyperion's performance under the development contract, I doubt OS4 classic would ever have seen the light of day.
