Is it possible to play CD audio through the Paula audio during gaming?

yes its possible bu then all apps and games must be hacked 1 by 1 , so imho you can just forget about it for now.

and get yourself a soundcard! , or just make a cable with mixed signals (paula + cdrom) , eyetech made such cables and sold afaik!.

Just mix the CDDA cable from the CD-Rom with the cable that goes out from L+R.

erm btw , all cdda is played trough cdda , look at games like payback..ITS paula only! .. no ahi etc.

ie all you need is a mixing of the channels, i use a soundcard for that (cd input) but there is that cable i talked about in the last post , or make one on your own, its dead simple!

only 1 downfall with this, you will loose quality but not much and if you do a proper job its well worth a try.

option 3 , get a amplifier with several inputs to 1 output , hook up cdda signal there + paula and let the amplifier mix it.

I made an internal audio mixer that levels the CD audio and Amiga audio.

The problem with mixing the two is the power output is extremely uneven. Well, the internal cd-audio that is  If you play only the amiga audio, it barly comes out cause the resistance is lesser going towards the cd-drive.  But when you play the cd-audio, it so over powers the amiga audio that you can barly hear your "FINISH HIM"s.

So I found and leveled the resitance levels, put a volume control on the CD Audio, and mad the whole thing internal on a card face plate.

I called it the Audio Inny.  I was going to make a shell for external use (500, 600, 1200) and call it the Audio Outy.

I showed off the prototype at Amiexpo in Baltimore a year or two ago and got alot of interest but school and lack of funds keeps me from actually polishing and producing it.

If you really want, I could dig out my notes and you can build one your self.

PS- the hacks on aminet and the Mr. Hardware versions don't have any volume controls in the specs......

Or you could just butcher a cheap pair of head phones from the £1 shop, chop the headphones of the end of the lead. Plug them into the headphone socket on the front of the CD player, mix the audio with the amiga audio out of theback of the phono sockets. (Use diodes so you don't backfeed)Then the volume control on the front of the CDplayer is your level adjust for the CD.

Actaully, i was toying with the idea of using the headphone jack of the CD ROM drive and connecting a cd radio style speaker to this and sticking this internally in the tower.

Can anyone supply me with instructions and diagrams of the hacks mentioned here.

ummmmmmmmm, i wouldn't advise headphones, but maybe go to richer sounds (england) for some bannana plugs, or a piezoelectric earpiece from maplin electronics (england) or radio shack (rules the world, i mean america) and then all proffesional/non buy from newsagent speakers have two cables, so it should be an easy job soldering, and yeah, and add some diodes here and there :-D  maybe some colourful ones :-) if it turns out it is too quiet, you can just add in a battery to the circuit, and it would strengthen the signal, but i would also then provide a fuse... it would help if the cd player had a volume control, cause otherwise, it might start disentrigrating your ear drums if it turns out to be too loud, otherwise it would be much more complicated and you might have to buy a scaler-downer-of-soundser from radioshack or maplin...

Also a good idea of shoving it in the tower although where are you going to put it? i mean i have a server tower about 2 meter's tall :lol: so i have plenty of room anywhere, but this is designed for an IBM compatible things, so it has a pc speaker... and i would put it there, but i don't know about the amiga, could we have a few pics of your acutal model? thanks...

But i guess there are two possibilities, either put it in the back (and get echoey dodgy sound) or take out three cd-sloty-things at the front of the tower, and just use some support rails, and shove it in. Well there are the instructions, but no pics, cause i don't have an amiga tower

Ever hear of a CD32?   the CD32 does this.........it mixes the audio channels,both Paula and CD Audio come out from the same output......obviously the CD quality sound is not generated by Paula. But you cant tell.......its coming out of an Amiga!

Sound on the CD32 is excellent by the way.

Um.. Diodes on an AC audio signal? you would be better off with an optoisolator, I built one to see if I could send an analogue audio signal across a fibre optic.

It worked fine, a bit complex though, and I lost half the dynamic range of the speaker.
