Voodoo 3

Hokay!

In an attempt to get some quirks and conflicts between my Radeon 8500 and Morphos resolved, I've decided to go to the root of the problem and remove the damn thing. (The radeon that is, not morphos ;-) ).

I'm planning on bidding for a voodoo 3 on eBay.

Should I go for PCI or AGP? (My radeon is AGP)

Anything else I should look out for?

Some have SVHS Out others don't.
They used two different types of memory as well
SGRAM and SDRAM on the boards.
Introduced some compatibility problems.
The Voodoo 3 3000 is faster than the Voodoo 3 2000

You could always stick your 8500 in your A1...
I got mine working with the latest uboot update.

If you buy it in PCI you could later on use it in a Mediator if you decided to buy a classic Amiga...

The speed shouldn't be too much of an issue. I just want it to be stable.

I intend to.
I had it working but linux pished me off so much that, when the Pegasos mobo arrived, I needed a case and the A1 was the best candidate to be liberated. I'll get another case, CDr, HD, etc, in due course.

I still use my A1200 tower most weeks but I don't intend spending much more money on it, if any.

Make sure you get the composite addaptor phono cable as well. The bloke who i bought mine of on ebay auctioned it seperatly.

They changed the RAM because of problems.
Mediator has problems with the olderones as well IIRC.

ah I have fond memories of my voodoo 3 from a few years ago in my pc. I had the 3000 which ran its core and memory at 166mhz, however with some additional fans it was stable at 220mhz for core/mem in windows 2000. Windows 98 it would fall over at 200 however  :-D

If i removed the fans it would crash in under half a second but it worked fine for over a year so never damaged it

If you can plug a Voodoo 3 in your Amiga, you can use on of the PC TV cards based upon those chipsets  (if you have the GREX bus):

Conexant Fusion 879
Microtune Tuner
Philips Tuner

Visionary for G-REX

and only (?) Bt878 for the Mediator...

But which is your version of MorphOS 1,1.3 or 1.4 ??  :-o
