Has anyone ever gone through the trouble of compiling a list of all the announcements like this we've seen over the years? Should be a rather hefty tome =).

Dudes, this is vapourware, nothing else.  Anyway is this revolutionary? No! Everyone is get this half or  third of its price for x86 systems. And it is not materialized yet. Ok if it is see the light one day it will be the fastest amiga, but for a company which have no web page in 2007? I have better tales for you if you want.
Amiga 500: 68030@14MHz/68882@40MHz/ 5.5MB RAM/80MB HDD/Delfina FE Sound card/Kickstart 3.1/OS 3.1

Macmini 10,1 PPC 1.58GHz, 1GB Ram, 80GB HDD 5400rpm, Ati Radeon 9200/32MB, , MorphOs 3.1

PowerBook 15" PPC 1.67GHz, 2GB Ram, 250GB HDD, ATI 9700/128MB, MorphOS 3.1

Specs are really nice, but the price aint. Just think of it.. $1500 for system + os4 $100 + soundcard .. totalling to close to $1650 which doesnt even contain VAT yet

@Hooligan

"This new system will be offered at a suggested retail price of $ 1498.00 and be a complete offering excluding monitor in a finished design that will provide customers with everything they need to get started."

I read that it is complete. So there should be sound + GFX + AOS4 included in that price.

But as usual. Time will tell if the thing materializes. untill then

I agree that the pricing is in the upper scale - but the question is if it is even possible to produce a higher end system for a lower price?
The Amiga market needs to grow to push prices down as usual.
So, why was the NeXT line of computer so expensive again, because of the small market.
Why did Apple switch to Intel cores? Because the production costs are lower and they can earn more money since the brand "Mac" is a high end brand.

Amiga Inc needs to be able to deliver OS4 with the machine. There needs to be some killer apps that makes the OS and HW to shine and gets the attention from media.
Amiga Inc need to market this smart, get their act together and making sure that Linux is not the only OS of choice for the initial machine.

Difficult - yes, but impossible? - That depends on the first production run. If the high end machines are sold quickly for asked price I think it can be done.

I'm following the scene since the beginning, I remember seeing a LOT of vapourware announced but I don't just get why many people are still feeling the need to flame every bit of news about the amiga they see

Flaming? I don't know about that. More like pointing out a sad reality. Not everyone reading Amiga.org has been following this sad story unfold for as long as others.

If Ainc don't show up with a real product, well its gonna be their problem. There is absolutely no point of announcing a product and not sell it.

But of course there is a point, they are involved in a lawsuit. Follow the logic and you will see...
