Its 2007 now a bare text-OS with PKGSRC is no solution.

I don't think you're too bright. In no way does using pkgsrc restrict you to a bare text os.
Restraining orders are just another way of saying I love you!

Buy a mac? Why I already have one...OSX (os10!) is o.k... I perfer my linux/bsd/unix strait up, thanks. I may be the only one, but I HATE that glossed over candy apple GUI. I also hate OS's that assume I'm an incompetent user.

That's  Windows. OS X is just simple. You can change OS X gui with shapeshifter.. anyway Aqua is eye candy but still efficient, fast and elegant. Not like Vista full of useless menues and buttons.

OS X is just the best, this is fact :-P Give it a second try..  it has a BSD layer it runs UNIX applications and you can use it like Linux if you want, but is simples.

the tiny user base is full of in fighting.

I dont agree.  The userbase is a hornets nest but when Amiga Incompetent comes flying in then you see the arguing.  Whats going on now is the userbase is tired of all the bullcrap from Bill McEwen/AI and they are voicing their opinion.  Let the people be heard!

OSX is not a BSD at heart. It is based on the Mach microkernel and has a BSD compatibility layer

No there was talk of them moving to the Mach micro-kernel with a BSD compatibility layer but there was nothing more than speculation I'm sure. The current OSX is based one BSD.

This is a statement from june19/2006:

ACK Software Controls, Inc. is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of two new AmigaOne XE CPU modules. The first CPU module will be equipped with a Freescale MC7448 CPU clocked at 1GHz. The 1GHz module will retail for $500.00 US Dollars. The second CPU module will be equipped with a Freescale MC7448 clocked at 1.7GHz will retail for $850.00 US Dollars. Both CPU modules will be eqipped with a high quality heatsink and fan to ensure quiet, reliable operation.

Prototype modules will be demonstrated May 22/2006. The location for this demonstration has yet to be determined. Due to the low volume nature of these products, emails indicating demand for either of the two units is greatly appreciated. Stay tuned for updates.

Sincerely,

Adam Kowalczyk

ACK Software Controls, Inc.

For an overview of the Mach+BSD of the OSX kernel, http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Conceptual/KernelProgramming/index.html has the info - there's a diagram of the basic architecture under the link "Kernel Architecture Overview" then "Architecture" under that.

The mighty Amiga announcement machine appears to be up and running again.  This 'e-mail me for demand' is a type of geek ego trip... e-mails cannot judge demand in any way, shape, or form.  You either have a real product and a real business plan or you don't.  I've never been wrong in predicting an Amiga product won't ship, at least in recent years.  I predict this won't ship.   If I'm wrong someday, good, I can wait a week till they have the product, if thats the truth of it.
