That would be piracy!

It would only take one clever engineer with a ZIII or CPU connector extention and a pimped SAM bios to turn a SAM board into a classic amiga expansion. Now where do we find one of those engineers?

Now it seems, that Hyperion decided, they can't squeeze money out of AmigaOS 4 anymore. Then they have thrown this hot potato into someone's else hands. Let's see what ACube will do with it. There is still no publicly presented Samantha board working, there are no signs of ACube getting AmigaOS 4 licence from Amiga Inc. The only fact in this announcement is that Hyperion and ACube made their unofficial partnership an official one.

Well this is the only piece of good news we've had for a very long time, so I choose to remain optimistic that this partnership will result in a decent motherboard being released with OS4 bundled.

Can't we all just read it for what it is and not pick it apart to read into it what we want?

The problem is people are reading TOO much into it.  Yes, it's good news that OS4 will be out for PPC accelerated Amigas.  However, that is ALL the news.

They have a license to sell and distribute Amiga OS 4.0 from Hyperion. Seems that ACube may think, by my reading into it, that this may help or lead into them getting a license for thier PPC hardware. Let's all wait to see it that announcement comes.

No, that is what the spin is on this.  There is nothing to show that Acube has a license from Amiga Inc to make SAM a official Amiga (and thereby qualiflied to use OS4).  I doubt AI will contract Acube for it since they do not meet minimum requirements AND Hyperion is not on best terms with Amiga Inc after the byback fiasco.  I could be wrong, but let us see this announcement first.

What the announcement could be is that Acube is attempting to buy out Hyperion's contract.  Hyperion is in a bad legal position right now since it's a VOF and not a LLC while Acube is a LLC.  That makes Hyperion's owners liable for any law suit Amiga Inc may bring against them.

now who's reading too much into things ?!

ACube are the resellers of OS4 that is all. Hyperion are a development company, and arent geared up for distribution of their software.
actually, I seem to remember that ACube's precursor (essentially Aorg user m3x, I forget the company's name) handled the replacement of my OS4 official pre release CD for an Update 1 CD, way back when.
As far as Hyperion are concerned, ACube are shifting volumes.
As far as ACube are concerned, they are providing a service for which they get paid.
nothing more, nothing less.

I don't think you're right on this one. The news explicitly specifies that ACube will distribute Hyperion's AmigaOS 4. I think you got your idea after reading news on ppa.pl which was not translated correctly. Always read the original anouncement to get the original meaning, especially if you know english :D.

No, that's new and unlicensed hardware. Right now, Hyperion can only sell OS4 for licensed Amigas. That includes A1s and 68K Amigas that have PPC accelerator. SAM is SOL till Amiga Inc signs a contract allowing it to be official licensed Amiga hardware.

Um.. Do you have some sort of insider info? How do you know that they do not have a license?

If they did, that would have made massive headlines everywhere with every single OS4 supporter crowing as loud as they could. From everything I've been reading from contract (although it wasn't the final version) being published on the Net to RVBB's statements on licenseing issues, you'll find why I made that statement. Everything I ever remember reading clearly specified that OS4 could *only* run on licensed hardware. That covered Eyetech's back as well as Amiga Inc (since they both have a stake in hardware licensing fees).

Maybe the Samantha team want to be quiet until they actually have it ready for release unlike some other bogus announcements that failed to materialize time after time.

Didn't Amiga Inc tell us all, if it's not on their Web Site, it's not true?
