MakeCD available for free!
« on: March 11, 2007, 02:52:33 AM »
MakeCD used to be shareware and some shops sold boxed versions together with a license. This worked well in the past and we are thankful to everyone who found MakeCD worth paying for. However, MakeCD sales have long ago stopped being a relevant source of income for us. At the same time it has become harder and harder for interested users to get hold of a MakeCD license as more and more Amiga shops ceased business.

Therefore we decided to draw a line and stop selling MakeCD altogether: now it is available for free. You still need a valid license key for the existing binaries. Here is a valid, unrestricted key:

Serial Number: 555555555
License Key: H8HsRww)7Uz)!iXE5PUMfgP#VymA6

If you want to tell the authors that you use MakeCD you are welcome to enter some information about yourself in these online forms, but this is entirely voluntary:
English Registration Form
German Registration Form

Wow that is quite a surprise, I am a registered MakeCD user and have been for years. But I am glad people will still be able to get the full (DAO) product because I think it is just the best out there accross many platforms :-)

Does this mean all future development has ceased?

I don't know if this is good or bad? Does this mean that there is no future in more commercial software for the Amiga format? Writing good (I mean GOOD) is hard. It's nice to do a little bit of gift giving and putting out some Open Source stuff, but bills sometimes need to be paid.

I don't know thanks...

Why buy it when you can just wait for the author to release it for free?

I bought the full DAO version from HiSoft years ago but didn't get around to sending off my details for a full registration code to get rid of an annoying 2-week time limit (on a fully paid product!).

Anyway, this free serial number will mean less hassle for the old binary users.

Thanks.
