WB tools menu available in dopus magellan
« on: October 21, 2003, 10:08:12 AM »
Hi all,
I use tooldeamon under os3.9 and would like to know if it is possible to have these menus in Magellan ? I mean I know I can add them one by one under dopus by editing the dopus menu but it would be easier if the WB menus would "stay" under magellan.

I can't remember exactly where, but either in the "Environment" or "options" from the menus gives you the option to "Show Tools Menu" with a checkbox next to it.  This option might be in the same place as the "Hide Bad Disks" and the chance to hide drives of your choice.

That should give you the Tools menu and all the ToolsDaemon stuff in it :-)

Right, it is under WB emulation but it does not transpose the tools menues from WB to Dopus. Anyone successfull ? The only menu which is working is the one with CDDA, nothing else.

AFAIK ToolsDaemon does not work with OS3.9 so I assume you use this ARexx replacement. This in turn does not work with DOpus because DOpus has different ARexx commands. You should try the original ToolsDaemon with DOpus.

There is a patch on aminet which lets you upgrade toolsdaemon2.1a to 2.2 compatible with os3.9. I use this version but it does not appear under magellan.

I haven`t used Tooldaemon for about 5 years (since getting DOpus M2). Whats the advantage over DOpus`s inbuilt menu system?

@ Nick : I am not using magellan 2 as WB replacement so I am mainly on WB screen with toolsdeamon to make my life easier. So it would be a plus point if I could use these menus each time I fired up magellan.

Well, do you start DOpus iconified at boot time or do you start it only as needed ?

If the latter, then this is your problem. The tools menu is not globally available, but is maintained by icon.library internally. Applications can add and remove items by the functions AddAppMenu and RemoveAppMenu, but there is no way to list the entire menu.

So the only thing DOpus can do is to capture Add and Remove calls and apply these changes to its own menu. It cannot ask Workbench what is currently displayed and copy it to its screen.

So DOpus must be started before ToolsDaemon in order to be able to record all items added by TD. And it must stay running in order to keep track of later changes.

Bye,
Thomas

I start it only when needed but I will try what you suggest and let you know whether it works.

The way Thomas suggested is working. Basically, Dopus is running iconified at boot and the WB tools menus are transposed in dopus BUT in one single menu so this tool menu is pretty long !!
BUT there is a problem with this method if you are using amidock : whatever shortcut to folder you put in the dock does not open anymore, only applications will be launched.
