October 19th, 2006 - Members of DiscreetFX sent a formal proposal to Amiga Inc. requesting formal validation of the company's value. We are hard at work finishing up our Super Size Me like movie about Trans Fat but the plan is to secure funding to purchase Amiga Inc. and all of it’s IP in the next year. That is our next project after completing the film. It has been on the To-Do list for some time. This of course depends on if Amiga Inc. wants to sell themselves in the next year and if an agreed upon price can be negotiated.

DiscreetFX believes there is tremulous value in the Amiga brand and Amiga OS 4.0.  The CEO of DiscreetFX stated “Even though we primarly develop our visual effects software on NewTek video editing solutions for Windows and solutions on Mac OS X the Amiga has always held a speical place in my heart since I developed my first product on it. I want to help bring the Amiga back to it’s formal glory in new IT markets”. If an agreement can be reached between Amiga Inc. and DiscreetFX the return of Amiga will be amazing.

Best regards

DiscreetFX Team

Wrong choice, IMO. AROS would be a FAR better value and have access to top of the line hardware.

I am not going to say that this is either good news or bad news... though, some things that springs to mind is:

1. While I do know who DiscreetFX are, I didn't realise they were such a big company that they would afford what price I do think Amiga Inc. ever would consider selling for. And, as they claim themselves, they have had this on their 'to-do' list for over a year, almost like if they just haven't had the time to set things up to go through with the purchase... it seems a bit unrealistic to me, especially since they don't even seem to have been in contact with Amiga Inc. concerning this before this proposal was sent out to them, but then again... is it?

2. Why announce this even before they have gotten a response from Amiga Inc.? Now, why, really?

3. Considering Amiga Inc. activity, as of lately, I am having a hard time believing that they would be insterested in selling themselves. Why would they be?

4. "If an agreement can be reached between Amiga Inc. and DiscreetFX the return of Amiga will be amazing." - why would it be amazing? Could it possibly be more diffuse than this?

Now... I am not going to say either this or that concerning the good or bad about this very proposal... but I have no understanding whatsoever for this press release. Seriouly.

But you can't buyout AROS. Though they could fund development.

Come on guy. This is just a joke. The guys from DiscreteFX only wanted to point out how unimportend AmigaInc. is that someone could just walk in and say "Well I like it. I buy it. I leave the details to my legal department..."
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

Huh? This doesn't make any sense. Did they mean to say tremendous?

I never put much faith in anything this important that contains spelling mistakes. Kind of like resumes with spelling mistakes - not worth the paper on which they are written.

I, too, think this is nothing but a joke... but, since previous things that have sounded even more like a joke have proven true I just don't want to go all the way out claiming it to be a joke. Rather, I just point out the unseriousness and non apparent logic I find in the proposal...   though, I have to add... if it is a joke, I am not laughing.

There is no need to buy a OS, ever.  Hell, Bill could use AROS code and call it DiscreetFXOS.  What AROS could do with couple of full time coders would be massive.

That would depend on where the coders are living, I suppose.  Cost of living in their area is going to be the major deciding factor on coder's salary.  Rough guess based on US factors, I'm guessing mid $30K to lower $40K per coder.  West vs East Europe, I really don't know what Euro value would be fair.  Russian or Brazilian coders would probaby work cheaper.

IMO, couple of core full time coders (say one kernel/hardware and one GUI) and throw some money into bounties would be the best bang for the buck for DiscreetFX.  I do agree, they do need fairly tight control over an OS if they are going to offer a unique package. I just think what they are going to out put for Amiga Inc assets, as deluted and questionable IP it is, would be better spent else where.  Hell, if they need name recognition that badly, I would have gone and talked to C= about licensing.
