OS 3.9 Iprefs Dilema
« on: October 19, 2003, 09:51:03 AM »
Right this is doing my head in now.

Scenario:

Bog standard A4000 030 25Mhz 2Mb Chip 16Mb Fast
3.2 GIG HD and a CDROM

I have OS3.9 BB2 Installed on the SYS: Partition.
To mount a CDROM as slave on scsi.device unit 1 under 3.9 you need to update scsi.device.
Simplest way is to just do Setpatch Quiet.
However the startup-sequence hangs at Iprefs evertime.
If I rem out Iprefs, it boots to workbench and mounts CD0 fine. However, Workbench doesn't work properly without Iprefs running in the background.
If I then change my startup-sequence to setpatch (V44.38) with the NoRomUpdate quiet switch I can boot all the way through to workbench with Iprefs running. However scsi.device is not updated and as a result CD0 complains about being unable to mount scsi.device unit 1.

Is there a way I can just update scsi.device without updating other modules ?

Has anyone else had this problem ?

I cant use IDEFIX as it crap outs all the time with a BAD C0DE recoverable alert.

Did it work with BB1 ? If so try SetPatch QUIET SKIPROMUPDATES "exec.library".

Bye,
Thomas

As it's a standard cpu card you use I can't really help you with the update of the scsi.device, but if anyone else has this problem here is a thought.

Download BlizKick and install it as descriped in the docs. In the docs you will also find something called "how to make a single boot OS3.5/OS3.9 system". In here it is descriped how to cut the romupdate into pieces, you then can type in after the BlizKick command to get all the things in rom update executed, and not having the computer reset once more. It already did that when copying Kickstart to fastram.

@JurassicCamper

You might try downloading this, but you need to be able to copy your Kickstart to fast memory. Try dusting off your manual and see what it says.

As goes for the BAD CODE alert. Have you tried checking for virus recently? I have had the same experience once, and after checking my SYS: with VirusExecutor there were found 22 viruses. After I removed the virus all was fine. I found the Happy New Year and the Ebola virus on my drive....

Send me an mail if you need to know more :-)

@JurassicCamper

interesting . . .i've the same problem here too.

I've done a billion of small combination.

Try to install the Iprefs from BB1.(45.10)

If you haven't tell me that i'll mail you.

Ciao

PS- i've noticed that if you have AHI installed, even the alerts system beep sound, will redirect to AHI
