@ lempkee

not, as reported by the docs, if the icon.library is already patched, PowerIcons will not works.

By the way . . about the small arrow, it is not inside the PNG image, and it is impossible to remove it (AFAIK it is part of the hack during icon dragging).

Ciao

The reason I asked for a screenshot is that I'm still running OS 3.1 and I don't have any plans on upgrading only to be able to view the icons :-)

As a few people have asked for a screenshot showing PowerIcons in action, I've just uploaded one to the image gallery (Power WB), watch out for it...

Also uploaded it to my web site as a .png, better quality but bigger file size, http://web.ukonline.co.uk/d.hutchinson/PowerWB.png

@Framiga

My machine...

A1200
Apollo 1260 060LC/75MHz (no FPU)
32 MB Fast
Mediator 1200 SX
Voodoo 3 3000
Soundblaster 128
TV card
Spider USB
Ethernet

Running...

OS 3.9, I use SmartFileSystem which I think might help keep the speed up on icon loading (loading the PNG icons feels the same as normal GlowIcons)

I haven't fully installed this patch yet because of two major factors:

1. Moving icons displays an arrow instead of the image.

2. All icons sets I've found tend to be too large (even for 1024x768).

Anyway, the patch seems to work flawlessly on my Amithlon (Duron 800) system.  Icons appear instantly and window scrolls are just as fast as before.  Simply, I notice NO slowdown.

I would REALLY hope a system like this (with the above issues addressed) makes it into OS4.  I have a hunch the powers-that-be are keeping things under wraps until the final release, but I can't see them issuing a brand new OS with old, clunky GlowIcons.

Nice job, Elena.

THANK YOU!

While I would love to see a 2nd image supported it's nice that I can finally use 32bit icons on my workbench and even dopus.  The only thing I would love to see removed is that horrid "shortcut" arrow or an option to take it out.  If I'm missing something in the settings then I'll find it eventually.  Very slick and quite well done.

Hey Kent!

Any chance of you turning your excellent MITS icon pack into 24bit (quite a lot of work I know), I really like the glowicons style and the only problem I have with them is the low colour depth (dithering etc.) Truecolour glowicons would rock.

P.S. Isn't it feasible to have a rendered glow as a select effect like 3.9 icon edit does done on the fly?

Thanks

That would take a lot of work.  However I've done alpha graphics before without a problem.  I could work on a few and make a small set.  I'll have to look at them to see what I can do.

Firstly, I can't stand having photos as icons. Peoples faces & other real stuff, YUK!

Secondly, Elena,

You really do make some nice programs.

Rogue, have a chat with Elena will ya? You was after something for later updates for OS4. Now I don't know much about programming these things but at a glance, this may be heading in the right direction.

Obviously, the scaling thing could do with coming into it as these icons look massive on my 1024 screen & it wouldn't be right to have to install different sets of icons for different screen resolutions.

BUT, after saying that I will say again. Excellent work Elena. I have a few suggestions in my head but they're probably things you've thought of so I'll wait until you do updates before I say anything.

PS. It's not a bad speen on my 060/50 but with 48mb RAM, it ate up memory. Yoink!

May I just ask what is the point of these 32-bit icons?
Seems like a waste of time to me.
