For money or not, it soon will turn out. I wouldn't be surprised if it will be available for money.

Yes, VGP2 would have been my choice too. It's most "Amiga originating" and great game too. We haven't got any decent racing games for eternity either. For car handling you really need a usb-wheel... other controlling methods just don't work well enough. I played all races through with mouse/kb, but the real fun started now when I got wheel :)

Hyperion only did Quake2 officially.
