warp engine for a3000 desktop?

is there a special model for the warp engine to fit in an a3000?.  aaany land mines to avoid in installinf it?

Yes and no.

They are identical for the A4000 and A3000 except that they physically removed the last two memory slots because putting memory in there would physically block the floppy drive.  Other than that, there is no difference.  I'm running a A4000 version in a A3000 right now and have been for quite a while(It's running my web server).  I hope that helps!

Oh, btw, if you plan to do this, and plan to use the one board SCSI on the warp engine, you should check out the int 21(I think) hack.  It's posted around somewhere.  You may not need it if you are running a newer rev motherboard than I am(don't remember the rev).  Otherwise the SCSI is VERY slow.

The picture shows six slots so it appears to be a
4000 mdl.
If i remove the floppy and use an external will that give room for the 4000 mdl and six memory slots?

How did you fit it in without hacking the a3000 cover?

It will fit in there tight, but will be okay. I used one for a long time in my A3000 untill I got a Cyberstorm 060 MK III.
I would recomend you get a tower or you have to hack the floppy drive stand up some. I ended up taking the drive stand out
and using a custom made band to hold them in. It worked and kept the system cooler. The INT 2 mod will need to be dont as
well if you use the SCSI. Its a simple two point connection you need to jumper.

if i  take out the internal floppy drive and use an external FLOPPY drive willthat free up the space for the WE?..How about the static fast ram on the motherboard? have any had problems conflicting with the WE?

  I took the drive tray and hacked room for the WE and fan.Moved the 2 floppies to another empty 3000d case on top of the main case via long floppy cable. The second case has it's own ps. The daughter card is a real tight fit next the WE. I had to put insulation between the two. The dc has got a slight amount of bend to it, but works fine!
  It worked fine with the old chips, but I have since upgraded them. I have 16meg on the mb and 128megs on the WE. I have  or am using a Jaz , CDRW, Syquest EZ135, and 7 disk cdrom.
  As far as street price search ebay completed auctions. I love mine. They may not be as fast as an 060 but the scsi works flawlessly. Not near as picky as GVP stuff and uses standard RDB's unlike alot of gvp stuff (my gvp trex 060 in particular)
