Device and Unit number of the CD32's CD-ROM drive?
« on: October 14, 2003, 10:57:40 AM »
Hi,

I own an expanded CD32 (see sig) and I have found that some software asks for the device and unit number of the CD-ROM drive in order to work properly (mainly CD-ROM games and CD players etc.) This would be easy on an expanded Amiga with a separate CD-ROM drive, by selecting "scsi.device" and "Unit 0" or something similar. But on the CD32, the CD-ROM drive is controlled by the Akiko chip. What should I be entering for the Device and Unit number? Or is it just not possible?

I'm running OS3.9, but I don't have CacheCDFS or AmiCDFS or anything like that installed, because the CD32 has CD-ROM support built into the hardware (It's interesting that the ROM update in the OS3.9 BB2 update breaks CD-ROM support with a CD32 running OS3.9... I don't know why!)

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

Cheers! Not sure if there's a cd.device in my OS3.9 Devs folder, but I seem to remember seeing one on my WB3.1 disks. I'll give it a go tonight!

The cd.device should be resident on a CD32.

Not fully on-topic, but I recall a "trackdisk like" API was used for controlling the medium on CD32, which means CD32 games used that method for playing CD tracks and setting volume (CD_ATTENUATE). That's why those CD32 emulators for AGA Amigas put up a cd.device type of thing.
So you have the strings in your palm. Do you know what they are for?

cd.device is inside the second kick on the cd32 (the half kick)

beyond that all this is documented very well in the cd32 devkit.

also the devkit has this handler in L: on disk 2.

its also located in os3.9 , i used to make cd32 stuff and i have had os3.0 /1/5/9  installed on my cd32/sx1/8mb*20gb hdd.

as a last info , cubocd32 use a diffrent call for the cd device + coinslot register.

cheers
Whats up with all the hate!
