New Amiga IRC Network launched
« on: May 25, 2004, 03:15:45 AM »
AmigaworldNET The Amiga IRC Network was officially launched Today by Amigaworld.net in association with Happybiscuit.com, GuruMeditation.se and Polarboing.com and is built around the Amiga community to help facilitate the communications of Amiga users and online organisations.

AmigaworldNET offers users the following services..

* NickServ, a powerful nickname manager that users can use to protect themselves against nick stealing

* ChanServ,  A powerful channel manager that helps users to administer their channels in a totally customisable way

* MemoServ, allows sending short messages to offline users, that they can then read when they come online later.

* BotServ, allows users to get a permanent, friendly bot on their channels in an easy way. Each bot can be configured to monitor the channels against floods, repetitions, caps writing, swear, and take appropriate actions. It also can handle user-friendly commands

* HostServ, allows users to show custom vHosts (virtual hosts) instead of their real IP address. New users will automatically receive an [Username].Amigaworld.Net vhost upon registeration (can be turned off)

I think it'd be better if everyone joined forces to form one massive Amiga IRC network, so you only have to connect your client to one network and are able to access all your favourite Amiga channels with ease.  Really, it'd be better if we all joined ARCnet (in my opinion)

That said, I wouldn't care one little bit how many networks I had to connect to, if only AmIRC were to have some improvements made to the way it handles multiple networks.
For example, I can quite easily tab multiple channels within a network, so all I have to do is keep one window open and swap between the channels as I like.  However, I'm not able to tab channels which are on a different network; for that I have to open a complete new window, and therefore I'm required to open a new window for every different network I decide to connect to.

When you're talking about connecting to more than 3 networks, that really can be a pain in the backside.

If AmIRC were able to tab channels from multiple networks as well (perhaps have the feature as an option) then I'd still only have to open one window and instantly have to hand all my favourite Amiga channels - which is the next best thing to having all the channels on the same network.  If then I could write a simple script to tell AmIRC to automatically connect to each network and tab every channel in one window, then to be honest I wouldn't care how many different networks I had to connect to, because it wouldn't cause me any inconvenience anymore.

Good luck with the new IRC network though, I hope it grows in the future and perhaps one day we will have every Amiga channel on the same network!

Brian

Don't like strict rules so I stick to IrcNet as usual.
