Opus Magellan Source for Sale
« on: May 01, 2004, 05:42:12 PM »
Hyperion defaulted on the contract with GP software.  GP software are opening up the intellectual properties for sale again.  have now terminated the contract with Hyperion and the sources are back up for sale!

Interesting.  I wonder if they'll buy it later?

Unlikely.

Greg:
"Actually, they don't have any rights to develop Directory Opus nor use the name. They have still not honoured the Agreement we signed with them in good faith over 2 years ago. The contract has now been officially terminated for their non-compliance."

Jon:
"It was a straight-forward contract; they pay us money, they get Opus. They had two years, and didn't pay us the money they agreed to. "Too busy" isn't really a believable excuse for this :)"

DirectoryOpus 5.82 MagellenII carries some very nice features which completely transforms the use of Workbench.

If Hyperion are no longer going to aquire the source for Dopus with a view to integrating it's features into Workbench then they're going to need to incorporate much of those features themselves.  Basically they're going to need to do work which has already been done in Dopus.

It'll be interesting to see what Hyperion do with further releases of the desktop Amiga Operating System, if there are to be any further releases.

I assume there was a time table or deadlines in the contract.

It would be nice if us Peg users can get Genesi to buy/licence the source and have MorphOS get a built of Dopus. eh. On a more serious note it would be easy to port it back to AmigaOS then and we would all have use of it.

Acill - wouldn't it be more fun if Ambient just got the same functionality? :)

Nobody else ever needed a DOpus license or the original source code to write listers or add scripting capability.

Please don't Troll!

And for God's sake use a dictionary.

Two things I'd like to see built in to almost any software; a spell checker and grammer corrector.

even with the PNG icon issue, I use Magellian on my peg RIGHT NOW. the listers (with names) work just fine.
I can unlha files and read text files, move files, etc, in fact most of what I can do on my real amiga. I just don't use it to look at icons (well, not PNG icons). it's not a big problem.
I just use Magellian on it's own screen - NOT as a Wb replacement.

anyone can do that until such time as it gets developed to work with the new icons.
what's the problem?
And I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a "company" to buy the source. Just like a bounty was set up to port Mozilla to amiga, maybe we can do something similar for Magellian.
the no CARB diet- no Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld or Bush.

DOPUS is one of those programs that if you start it up and start using it casually, you don't see the amazing and necessary capabilities, but when you start learing how to create custom command icons, scripts, net features like using it as a transfer station to move files across the net from one computer to the next using your Amiga as the conductor in-between, it just becomes to obvious why you cannot live without it.

I for one don't care who owns it so long as it makes it for AOS4 or MOS.

Does anyone know what they are looking to get for the license?
