Hi to all,

If this is a hoax, nice one guys, you got me!
If not, it's a sad day indeed for the community, my best wishes to all at Amiga.org. :-(

Anyway, to the point of this post: I just looked at the WHOIS info for the site and found the following info:
Quote
Domain Name:AMIGA.ORG
Created On:26-Apr-1995 04:00:00 UTC
Last Updated On:09-Jan-2004 21:51:16 UTC
Expiration Date:27-Apr-2004 04:00:00 UTC

Note the 'Expiration Date' of 27th April, this seems to lend weight to the fact it has been sold.

But I'm left asking a couple of questions:

Why update the site to XOOPS 2 then sell it a month or two later? Surely it would have been better to save the hassle, unless amiga.org will carry on with a new domain?

Just my two cents!

Cheers,
Graham C

Gone but not forgotten (and slowly getting them back): CPC464, C64, Vic-20.

I may have a problem

Last attempt? Maybe Wayne has finally gotten fed up with the endless complaints? :-(

Whabang spoke thus:

It could have been a last attempt to shut the naysayers up, I don't know. It just seemed to me that the site was gearing up for the future. Ah well, it'll be sad to see the site go.

@Wayne

Just a quick question: Will you be letting us know the reason(s) for the sale? I know it's none of our business, but it would be nice to know. :-)

Cheers,
Graham C

DOH!!! I read it yesterday and didn't think to re-read the beginning of the thread before I posted. :whack: That'll teach me.

Thanks Wayne, and I hope you find a new job soon.

If this is not a joke, why didnt you ask any of the members to help you out? You want all the work on this website go into dust? Or will you give/sell the layout of the website? So that it can be transfered to another url?

Come on people, it's a ruse.  If it wasn't, why would Wayne still be posting links to his RSS feed on ANN?

...think about it. :-)

Well, the traditional thing to do after a ruse on April 1st is to say April Fools!!!  Since Wayne hasn't done that then he's either:

-Not Traditional
-Dal

But I agree with the person above. April Fools jokes start and end on April 1st.

Heh,
Since this site will go down anywho, and basically probably wont come back, then I might as well say whatever I can.

Yea, i guess its kinda sucks that amiga.org has to go, but then again, I wont miss it. Everytime I would try to post information to users and basically stating that amigaworld.net may be an alternative, it gets moderated. I didnt flame nobody, nor did I say Amiga.org sucked, but still got moderated. So due to that, i have quit this site long ago. So its disappearance wont matter.

So why be sorry or whine about it going? Just find another Amiga website where we can still post.

Whatever Wayne does, let him be. Just dont expect me to be returning after that years time.

my 2 cents....

Unfortunately it doesn't look like it (more than 24 hours have passed since the news was posted).  amiga.org has been regular viewing for me since 1998 (or thereabouts).  I understand the reasons for the sale but it will be sad to see it go. :furious: :bigcry:
