REBOL Web Browser Plugin
« on: March 04, 2004, 05:51:04 AM »
1-March-2004 - REBOL Technologies today released to developers the alpha version of REBOL/Plugin, a new web browser plugin module for Microsoft Internet Explorer. The plugin enables Internet developers to quickly create and deploy lightweight browser hosted applications that run within the framework of normal web pages.

The beta release of the REBOL/Plugin is scheduled for later this month, with final release soon thereafter. Plugin modules for other web browsers such as Netscape/Mozilla and Opera are also planned.

The REBOL/Plugin installs automatically (just one click) when a web page references a REBOL-based application. The plugin module is tiny (only 346 KB), making it quick to download, even over telephone-based modems.

Hmmm... well, the plugin installs OK, but it can't connect through Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0, so I just end up with a Rebol console and an error message...

.. not while there isn't a simple way to autodetect the plugin and run the content.

Voyager can't predict the class id's of windows components, and which plugins are which. They'd at least need to define a mimetype (not on the demo page..) on the OBJECT tag.

You could put the MorphOS objects (or Mozilla plugins etc.) in the same cabinet file, with some pretty references but nobody made a decision on that.

I like REBOL, I like it a whole lot.

It is because, these types of simple to use scripting languages are worthwhile, and help people do what computers are fundamentally all about: be more creative and more productive.

REBOL is a great product, and I love this browser plug-in.  scriptics abandoned the tclet browser stuff a (tcl/tk browser plug in) a while back, and this browser plug-in from ReBOL is much welcomed, in my opinion.

I used to work for a fortune 500 company, and I tried to evaluate rebol as our standard scripting language.  We chose perl instead, because more people know perl, and partly because rebol completey ignored our request for information (this was 3 or 4 years ago).

Great to see rebol still moving things along after so many years of obscurity, and I think this browser plug-in is a fantastic idea.

I've just found this message in the REBOL mailing list. http://www.rebol.net/list/
It seems that you might be able to use the REBOL plugin in Mozilla:
