maybe they're too proud to include PowerIcons into OS4 since Elena works on MOS/Pegasos

Maybe i have to admit that powericons are a lot nicer and modern looking. :-)
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

No i'm not joking. The only difference is the alpha channel. As i've said have you cecked the leopad icon of the lastes screenshots, it seems a png.

I'm not sure about you, but my eyes can see more than 256 colours.  I think you ought to take off those 3D glasses you were handed at the cinema :-)

These are new? I mean, they're nice looking, but this is not the first time I've seen them, or at least something very similar to them...

:-?

They're tweaked methinks.  But they look good.

Looks nice.  At this point I really don't care what icons come with it.  I just can't wait to get my itchy, sweaty hands on the durn OS.

No. How many pixel there is in a medium icon (60x50 for example)?  For sure not 16,8 milions.

256 colors for an icon is a lot, the only difference is the alpha channel.... for the third time: See the leopard icon from the lastest screenshots. It was a png icons converted to Glow Icons. :-D

Example (and I'm not saying they were the first, I know they weren't), WinXP has 24-bit icons now rather than 256.  The icons do look better.  XP also now allows humungous-size icons, like AmigaOS has since the dawn of time.  Are you telling me it wouldn't notice on any large icon at all either?

And yes, some images can be scaled down to 256 colours without noticable loss of quality.  Anyone who does sensible web design knows this.

And some don't, and dither comes to play. And some are awful even with dither.

Wonder how different some posts here were if those OS4 icons were 24 bit. I bet that "256 colors are enough for everyone" would vanish in the haze... :-)

@Warface

For sure i'm not as you described. In my opinion 256colors is enough (at least for now), OS4.x will have 24-32bit icons in the future. But i think it isn't essential.

I already said because i think so.

Well, I like the original 4 color icons as well. Not to mention MagicWB(8), FantasticWB(16), NewIcons(256), etc.

So X "colors is enough" is a very relative statement. All modern system sports 24 bit + 8 bit alpha. It's always easier to support an older system with a more advanced system, than in reverse order.
