« on: February 09, 2004, 02:00:25 PM »
You have read correctly, it again has spawned another name with this new release.

Windows, Linux and Mac OS versions are available in the download section.

Firefox

Personal Note: Am i the only one getting visions of a dodgy early 80's Clint Eastwood film ;-)

The server seems totally overwhelmed at the moment, so you may have some issues trying to get it, doesnt seem to be many mirrors about either.

if you really need it and having problems getting it i can send it via IRC on #amiga.org  or possibly MSN/ICQ. (windows version only, size: 6.3 megs approx)
One at a time though  :-)

I'll give this a sping later tonight. Personally so far on Linux I have found Konqurer lacking and Mozilla frighteningly slow & bloated. Let's hope this is an improvement.

I love that movie! Got it on laserdisc - the Mig 31 was a beast of a plane - the novel (and sequel "Firefox Down") by Craig Thomas were pretty good too...  :-D

Firefox (the film) rocks :-)  The browser is pretty good as well :-)  I'm surprised they got the rights use the name though.

Actulaly I meant for the >>>>> to show how fast it really was.

The Firefox Mozilla IMHO is faster than Netscape 7.1  ( and yes I know that they do seem to use similiar code , I've heard, but it still appears faster)

This would be GREAT for the AMIGA OS4 !!!!!!

Netscape 7.1 is based on a now ancient version of Mozilla (1.1?  Something like that).  NS also has nasty AOL-ifyied extra bits bolted on.

Firefox is a cut-down version of the Mozilla browser component, and they still share source code.

There's also Thunderbird, the standalone email client, currently at v0.5, which is also quite nice.  I've been using it since 0.4 was released.

Mozilla on AmigaOS/compatibles would be a much-needed boost to Amiga opensource development, not to mention great PR, as well as giving me a decent footing for migrating to OS4 :-)

Agreed!  :-)  A modern browser is long overdue for Amiga, and Firefox would be a HUGE boost to all Amiga-ish computers!

The problem I have is that my family is all pissed off and confused cuz they think I keep yanking their chain about which browser to use...

"Ok, you should use Mozilla now as your browser, instead of Internet Explorer..."
Next version...  "Phoenix..."
Next version...  "Firebird..."
Next version...  "Firefox..."

And what do any of these names have to do with what the product is.... a WEB BROWSER...  I mean, AWeb, IBrowse, Voyager, Netscape, Internet Explorer.... All these names convey the idea that you are going to traverse (travel/browse) a network or web.  What the hell is a "Firefox"????

Far and away, it's the best browser out for any platform.  They just need to cut it out with the stupid names!

Great, another product named after a fox that has nothing to do with foxes!  Oh well.  Technically, a Firefox is a Red Panda.   ;-)

I just downloaded Mozilla 1.6 for testing my webpages, and the interface is sorely lacking, especially since you can't change the icon sizes without getting a different skin.  Funny how the "stripped" version of Mozilla seems to have better toolbars.

My only complaint with Firebird is that it didn't recognize filetypes effectively, so it was always showing videos as binary garbage instead of spawning Media Player.  I sure hope they fixed that with FireFox, since it's the only thing that's preventing me from replacing IE!

THEY FIXED IT!!!  You can fully customize filetypes!

Goodbye, IE!  Well, at least as a default.   :-D
