AmigaOne/OS4 Compatibility List
« on: February 08, 2004, 02:42:27 PM »
The OS4 Compatibility list goes live, please contribute to it if you can.

The unofficial AmigaOne/OS4 compatibility list is a database of pre-OS4 software that has been tested with OS4.0 (currently beta and pre-release) on the AmigaOne. You can search for particular applications or games and check the version number and compatibility against your collection. You can also add to the database any software you have tested (please do this as the database relies on input). This database is intended to be useful to both AmigaOne owners who intend to purchase pre-OS4 software titles, and non-AmigaOne owners who would like to upgrade.

Please contribute as much as possible as an empty database is no use to anybody!

I was rather hoping some of the beta-testers would, and then the pre-releasers (me included) can add stuff en masse when it finally arrives (which I predict will be "Real Soon Now TM"  :-))

Yes, I was thinking that too. Apparently not even the poster has put anything on the database.

Projected Compatibility Report for Amigan Software Products----------------------------------------------

Hopefully all Amigan Software programs should still work under OS4.0, as it is all written to be system-legal. Conceivably there could be latent bugs/assumptions which only show up under OS4.0, or the other alternative would be that OS4 is not fully compatible with the existing APIs. We will be accepting OS4.0 compatibility reports as bug reports and investigating and fixing any problems accordingly.

Also they apparently had to reverse-engineer and reimplement the functionality of OS3.5 and OS3.9, so if there are flaws in their reimplementation this would show up by modern OS3.9 software such as Report+ not working. There's a bit of hardware bashing in Worm Wars so it likely won't run on an AmigaOne due to nonexistent hardware. There shouldn't be any problems whatsoever with Saga, HowDif,  Draco2C, Annotate, ACSE, etc.

lets try not to bash Chris... I think this is a great initiative, I was going to do something similar but far far more broader but I never got enough interest to help me do it (coincidently if your interested christ PM me)

Hey all,

The list includes Amiga ONe and OS4.

I am sure that there are several beta testers out there that could help here.

I believe that this is a great idea.

I would love to, but not being a beta-tester and not having the pre-release CD in my hands, I can't really add much.  There are apps out there which have been demo'd and I know work (see alx's Amiga Wiki page), but I don't know which versions they are, or whether they are working 100% correctly.

So, it makes it difficult, but as soon as the pre-release is available there should be an influx, and it is better that people know about this before they start installing things, than trying to retrospectively add and recall what they needed to do to get something to work, etc...

A bit premature...

Is an OS4 compatibility list really necessary? It should run 99% or more of system friendly programs supporting AHI and CGX/P96. If it can't, then it's in trouble.

I'd like to know how following software works in OS4/AmigaOne:

HippoPlayer (with AHI replayers)
Personal Paint (original 68k version)
TypeFace (what happens after saving?)
Colonization

Those are giving more or less problems in MOS/Pegasos.

Anyway, if you were gfx board user on Amiga you are not going to find much surprises. As KennyR stated 99% of
AHI/CGX/P96 apps should run and I'm pretty sure they do.

A hardware compatibility list would be more useful IMO, though for migrations software compatibility, for a buyer to be sure, it is useful.

Uh-huh.  And would you like to say with 100% certainty which particular pieces of software are fully OS legal, without testing them?  With newer software it is fairly easy, but there is a lot of older stuff which never made such claims and it is difficult to tell whether they will work without problems.

btw hardware compatibility list is here, although I think details of actual OS4 support are lacking currently.

A good initiative, but perhaps a bit premature. Judging from the talk in the forums, I guess more people at this stage are more interested in which hardware will work with the OS ...?
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

Trust me on this, they won't! Hopefully, the Amiga compatibility will be at least as high as in MorphOS, then it will be quite acceptable!
