Hiow can i output native modes via Mediator and voodoo 3
« on: October 09, 2003, 04:06:22 PM »
When i used to have a bvision on my ppc card, I could output native screenmodes on it. Is there any way to do the same with a mediator and voodoo 3? It's really annoying to have to get the tv out when it wont boot. I'm not bothered so much about playing old games (though it would be nice...) just mainly to see what is happening when i boot.

You could buy a tv in card and connect the output of your amiga to the input socket. That will let you play your old games. I don't think it will help much when booting though, as the software drivers need to be loaded first.

As far as I can see, my BVision isnt outputting native stuff during early startup - it just hijacks some of the OS calls to show the GUI on the bvision. Anything more than the default 4 colours tends to look awry as hell ;-)

No, you couldn't. This was a fake. The boot monitor was *copied* to the gfx card, not displayed on it. This is a feature of the PPC firmware. AFAIK it also works for the grex PCI board with a Voodoo installed(because it is from the same manufacturer).

You could ask Ralph Schmidt to work together with Elbox in order to adapt the PPC firmware for the Mediator. This probably would also mean to add Elbox' pci.library into the PPC FlashROM which makes it possible to boot from a hdd controller installed in the mediator. Erm, do you see the utopia ?

Thomas

here is my best tip .., either buy an lcd tv/monitor which support 15khz ->  or buy a scandoubler/ff.

throw out your old monitor if you buy an lcd, throw nothing out if you buy an scandoubler.

your choice :D

cheers

i was thinking about a flash ram card with all the required drivers that with an addictional reboot, make it resident.

Is it possible? (like Algor or so)

Which LCD TV/Monitor do you recommend.  Some of these are fairly pricey and would appreciate any recommendations  :-D
All the best
