AvP, coming to a theatre near you
« on: November 02, 2003, 12:15:47 AM »
Fox Studios is finally planning on releasing the movie version of the classic video game, Aliens vs Predator.  See the trailer here and visit the website here.

Originally announced in 1991, the Aliens vs. Predator movie has been "under pre-production" for over a decade.  After several staff changes, and even being cancelled several times, the firm version of the classic Dark Horse comic is finally hitting theatres next summer.

As much as I really, REALLY, want to see this movie, and I really do, it just sounds SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO corny to be called Aliens Vs. Predator, so corny it's out of this world. If I wasn't such a fan of both movies I really won't want to see this. I mean, ffs, it's really in the same vein as Freddy Vs. Jason, cheap budget ####e. Trailer is a load of crap btw, if your're thinking of downloading it.

@Slash

May I point you to the comic book (one of the best comics I've ever read made in the US) and the video game (such a hot title that they re-released it for the PC in 1999, 5 years after it's original release for the Atari Jaguar) before you pass judgement.  Also I should point out Predator 2, which showed an Alien head in the "trophy room" of the predator's spacecraft.

This project has been drempt of, off and on, since 1988 or so.

You've missed my point! Completely! I really, really think this film has been missed for a long long time, ####, scrap Alien 3 and Ressurection out of existance for ever, I really wanna see Aliens and Predator's in the same movie, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Fox take the "Vs." out of the title. It sounds so #### it's ....arghhhhhhh I can't explain it. It sounds terrible.

I've just re-read your comment, and yes, I've read some of the comics, and yes I've played the game, both on Atari Jaguar (which was quite good actually) and the PC, and yes, I've also got the film on DVD and yes we've all seen the scene with the Alien head in the trophy room. I think a film with both of them will be out of this world... but my comment that the title sucks f@#king ass still stands!! For such good potential, I think the title is killing sales of tickets!!

Actually, if you watch the featurette, it looks quite interesting. Still, the story is a rehash of the one from Stargate. You know, the Preds come to earth and help build the pyramids.

Sigh....I should have written that AVP story I had tinkering in my head. Would have been better. Alien 3 was simply the 'flash' before Ripley's flatline and the Sulaco pops up at a remote USCM Space Station. All of it takes place, with Hicks, Predators and Aliens, along with colonial marines as fodder on the space station. Gives the suffocating feel of the first Alien, with all the action of the second.

I think it will be good, provided it doesn't happen in 'our' timeline. I'd find it VERY lame if all of this takes place in say...2004.

If it does, then in space no one will hear you groan.

Sounds like the Wing-Commander-movie.....

Years and years in the pipeline, with a final result that, oh well  ... ;-)
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

. . . a truly unfortunate idea :-(

I think it will be a clamorous flop (at least here in Italy).

Hear hear.  Although Alien3 wasn't quite as bad as Resurrection, that was truly AWFUL.

The idea of making an AvP film should have been killed at birth.

Yeah, he could play an oddly musclely old codger who gets facehugged right at the start.  That would confuse people.

Resurrection
