AmigaOne Boots AmigaOS4 with Forefront Radeon Driver

Forefront Technologies is pleased to announce today a dedicated beta tester (Jurgen Schober) has successfully booted an Eyetech AmigaOne XE G4 on AmigaOS 4.0 by Hyperion Entertainment using Forefront's ATI Radeon driver and a Radeon 7000.

Though the driver was not intended to operate on the AmigaOne platform (in favor of SNAP drivers), a need for a more immediate solution prompted the porting of the driver to the new hardware.

AmigaOne Lite perhaps?  That's my guess anyway.

Sounds promising. But as they'll find, supporting one Radeon isn't quite the same as supporting them all. Still, it's a good start.

If this driver is going to be for the Lite, it's enough - remember, the latest Lite prototype has the graphics chipset soldered in, so adding a pluggable graphics driver system is unnecessary.  The extra overhead brings no benefit whatsoever.

That's the real question, isn't it?  the Lite looks good enough to eat (figuratively  ;-) ), but what will make or break it will be the pricetag.  I also hope Alan is setting up some sort of deal to sell them in nice cases.  Brand recognition is an important part of this game, and if people can't see one in the store window that looks like the one their friend has, that's a lost sale.  Take the PS2 and the GameCube - those are two computers that aren't easily mistaken for any others.

GOD. I can't wait till OS4 arrives, I really need to get some cookies stored in the bank for one of these puppies.
It's near impossible to find a network card for my 4k and well one of these PCs is going to fly, fly, fly.
