Unreal Tournament for the Amiga ?
« on: October 07, 2003, 12:46:35 PM »
Amigaworld.org has an interesting news item on their site about the possibility to port Unreal Tournament to the AmigaOS. Nothing has been decided yet, but the idea is there.

ok , very nice!! ..

i will keep an promise and that will be valid until UT is released for amigaos.

I will Buy 10 Copies of this game if it gets released! (amigaos version).

why? , because honestly its the best game ever made (of the FPS Area) , i dont like the sequel and i dont like UNREAL 1 and 2 .. UT is superb!.

Now , hyperion... will ya contact virgin/epic/godgames about it ? .

i bought shogo ,quake 1,2 , heretic2 , freespace etc but seriously only for one reason...wasnt anything else to buy , though quake 1 (gl) , heretic 2 and freespace is Very good games...quake2 and shogo is too much repetive for me..

everything in uT roxx,  SNIPER rifle (best ever?) , level designs (WOW) , editors are easy to manange (WOW) , speed on a lowend pc (WOW), supports OGL,DirectX etc..

a pure "over the top" game.

Ut2003 , no... misses the sniper rifle , bad level designs , looks awesome (WOW) but not a game i would die for...

UT ...I WOULD DIE FOR :D

sweet!.

I like the idea also .. but i'm not sure Hyperion has the manpower for it at the moment ... Getting OS4 out is more important then a game.

I agree 100% but, as we're in October already, assuming Os4 is out Dec/Jan (I hope), they could start work on it in two orthree months.

Unreal Tournament is great, uses a fantastic engine... and seems to be quite portable too using plug ins for the engine and drivers for some graphic cards... If I remember correctly it used specific glide drivers and even the Savage4 had its own specific version :-D

Wilse: Even after first release of OS4.0 (happen when happens,
not going to comment shedule) their work is not over. There will be
need to make future OS4:s too and those can't be delayed any much
longer.. In the end, this is just the first version of it.. If you'll
chat with Friendens, you'll soon notice that there are a Lot to do for
4.1 and 4.2 etc..

In the end.. Making new OS is a bit like havign a baby.. It's nice to
see it  grow up and develop, but you are also kinda stuck with it. So,
Hyperion coders will be kept well occupied with this newborn on
oncoming years :-)

I prefer Half-Life (much more mods) or Half-Life 2 :-D

But a port of UT will be GREATLY WELCOME :-)

if they would allow Hyperion to release UT I guess that they allow them to release UT2003 once NOVA is completed.

An AmigaOne XE G4/933 with a 128MB Radeon should move it more or less smoothly...

I guess that once the virtual memory system is completed a UT will be possible.

A MorphOS version would be nice too, but I doubt they would make it...

@Thomas&Hans-Joerg:
what do you think about the posibility of releasing this game?

ikir: UT stands alone and mods aint what makes a game fun anyway , i never liked Halflife as much as UT , but its a matter of taste.

anyway hyperion should be able to fork this game out after 4.0 , beyond that hyperion aint only 2 people so i hope they will contnue dooing games as supposed to (sin , worms armageddon....and yummy... UT)

i would appriciate to hear what hyperion has to say + how much it would cost em to get the liscence...

Even after all these years, UT online is still very very popular, i'd buy this in an instant. one of the best FPS ever made.

So is there any more info on these rumours?   I don't want to get my hopes up to high though with a game like this, such a damm classic!

This game has to be ported over!

UT is the best game I have ever bought. 3years down the line im still playing online every other day. (not bad for £30!)

There are still so many players out there. UT to me is perfection when it comes to online multiplayer FPS.

It is hard to improve on, and I cant see when I will put it down.

Maybe its time for a Clan AMIGA! to join in with the fun :)

See you playing online Amigans:

Yeah nice idea,but.....

Expect a rather high licence-fee, and the Mac-port is allready on it's way, so
a "do it once, sell it twice" won't be possible.

A Amiga-only port is very unlikely to cover it's costs (speak about sales in low/mid
3 figure numbers).

Hyperion are allready well occupied:
OS4.
OS4-related stuff (W3D-NOVA/SNAP).
Old licences (SIN,Real3D....).
New licences (Ingagold, DOpus).
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

How about a double effort ... to release it for MorhpOS aswell ?

Eventually .. people and companies should try to work together ...
