OS4 on BlizzardPPC
« on: October 06, 2003, 12:24:40 PM »
During the IRC Q&A in #Amiga.org Hans Joerg Frieden announced that OS4 will come out for the BlizzardPPC and maybe even the Pegasos2.

[10:59] <_4pLaY_> Hans-JoergF: Any chance we will see OS4 on Peg2? :) and how about Shark and Blizzard versions?
[11:00] 4play: Peg2, sure there is a chance, but I don't make that decision. Blizzard: Affirmative. Shark: When we get a prototype.

Could be the only good reason i can think of to buy a pegy 2 if well priced :-)

Yep, his brother Thomas more or less pointed out the same with regards to BPPC/OS4 but made clear the A1 version is the highest priority at the moment.

It is quite simple, and the option was always open for anyone:

Get a licence for AmigaOS 4, and things will happen.

@BBRV

You'll have to shift more than 600 boxes this time if you want OS4 on the Peg2, but nevertheless it's better than outright confontation and that can only benefit the platform.

That would be a win-win situation, everyone involved would benefit from that! Hyperion - more OS4 sold, Genesi - more Pegasos sold, Amiga Inc - more license revenues. Heck even Eyetech could be a winner, since they are a reseller who buys motherboards and has the power to brand them as "Amiga", and they could easily buy the Pegasos motherboards instead of/as a complement to  the other ones. The Pegasos could perhaps also be cheaper for Eyetech thanks to a more cost efficient developing/manufacturing process with less companies involved. :-)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

@ Skyraker

Why would they have to shift more than 600 boxes?

Well, the "get it finished" part is the only part that falls into my field of expertise, hence my comment on IRC.

I heard before that the licence fee AInc wanted was certainly not acceptable, ergo no OS4 on Pegasos. Has this really changed so suddenly?

Well, at least a possible BPPC version is good news. It removes at least one of the barriers for me running OS4. But I've already paid for at least part of OS4, and if I don't get my voucher, I won't be buying the rest of it.

Having the OS4 jewel in the Operating Sytem Crown along with the other beauties would be real nice.

I'm a bit worried about the dongle thingie - hope it will neither be a required change in the motherboard design (for a single OS?) nor a dongle occupying  a whole USB slot.

Any changes in the dongle policy?

As to the Blizzard version - can we take it as a promise? :-)
