« on: September 04, 2003, 08:26:59 PM »
Sign this petition to have one of the greatest game ever ported to Amiga and Linux: Half-Life.

The biggest game played online nowdays are all Half-Life FREE MOD, like Counter-Strike, Day Of Defeat, Natual-Selection and The Specialists.

Sign the petition here ...

Waste of time.  Half-Life is already playable on Linux and there is no financial motivation in porting it.

This seems to be turning into petition-mania. We must be in the slow season.

Besides, this subject has already been discussed in the forums.  Are we going to be making Amiga "news" by starting all sorts of half-baked petitions now?

(In case you can't tell, I'm getting sick of petitions and sick or people whining "I want xyz game or application ported to the Amiga". Do you think the lack of ports is because no one can think of what to port?)

I don't mean to sound too pessimistic, but what good is a petition going to do? What good have all the others done?

I'm sorry to be defeatist, but there's probably more chance of pink animals with floppy ears and big noses becoming flying aces in the Royal Air Force...

Online petitions are a waste of time. There is no company who has ever been convinced to do something because of all the "signatures" added to an online petition.

I remember asking people at Valve when HL came out if they were going to be doing an Amiga version (several people at Valve are ex-Amigans) and the response I got was that Valve only makes games for the IBM PC/clone* market.

In anycase, in order to get a company like Valve (a big time high-end games company) to be interested in the Amiga is for there to be actual modern Amiga's being sold to people (lots of people), and for the new Amiga's to be able to perform well enough to make their games look good. The only thing holding up progress is the fact that AOS4 is not out yet. Whether or not the AOS4/AmigaOne combo will be able to handle a game like HL (or more importantly, HL2) is unknown to me. Can someone tell me if it can?

*- Or plain old "PC", if you like.

Then, of course, we'll have to have the petitions to port all of the free mods.  Yeah, it's doable. We just need more multi-millionaires in the Amiga Community.
Besides why bother with Half-Life, go for the gusto, ask for Half-Life 2.

OK. But Half-Life is not a game, it is the GAME. If you ask for Hl2 you will receive a "NO". But for half-Life it would be possible now.

HL mods don't need recompiling.... i think.

Hl require a 24mb ram and a pentium 166. Some modification runs good only on a 800Mhz+ system with 128mb ram. In all cases a Pegasos or AMigaone will be enough.

hmm well if its possible to get it on amiga specific we should do it , i wont use linux for sure.

but then again...this is a big game and it will cost money to do a projcte like this..and alot of it.

good luck to the team..

Hi,
I'm not an expert in these matters, but would I be right in thinking that if HL requires a P166 and 64MB, it would be possible to run it on a G3/G4 under emulation, if such an emulation solution exists of course...;)

heh.. Amiga needs a new racing game! Thats whats missing for sure!.. A mix between Lotus 3 and GTA or something. With full multiplayer support and maybe a great editor and more.
I love and respect people which care! And not those with

A port of Half-Life 2 would be more worth while. I am sure that sooner or later Half-Life will go open source in which case someone can port it for free.

Speaking Of Which, why hasn't anyone taken an interest in the Aliens VS Predator sources?!?! :(
