Can I turn an Amiga 3070 Tape drive into external CDROM?
« on: October 07, 2003, 07:04:59 PM »
Has anyone ever took a Amiga 3070, and removed
the tape drive and replaced it with say CDROM or
harddrive.  I have one, but I think it would be more usefull for me to replace the tape drive and use it for my  A500, or maybe my Atari St? Since I`m not using
Unix on my A2000.  Unless someone can tell a program that would work with a 2.0 rom and workbench 2.1? maybe 3rd party or so?

Yes it should work. But why destroy a piece of original amiga hardware?
Anything with a commodore badge sells incredibly well on ebay these days.
So sell it, buy a standard external SCSI bay and you have money to spare
to take your mates out for a stiff drink!

@Nitro

Have you tried TapewormFS? It allows you to use the tape drive like a VERY slow hard drive. I think it works with AOS2.

@ Xand

Do you have a lot of experience with Tapeworm? I have discovered a need to use Tapeworm to get at my old tape backups. Will it work with OS 3.9? Or should I set up an OS2 system to use it?

Fortunately I had the presence of mind to use a capital "T" and the singular form.  :-D

A very slow "sequential" hard drive.  I used it for a while on OS3.1 so I'm pretty sure it would work with 3.9 also.  But, I wouldn't recommend it as a substitute for a real HD.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(
