Microsoft develops cunning strategy to beat Blaster worm
« on: August 19, 2003, 04:46:20 PM »
Having battened down the hatches to fight off Blaster worm, Microsoft Friday decided to bite the bullet and do someting radical about it. There was only one thing left to do: call for Linux! .

Check it out at The Inquirer.net ...

I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

So... A popular web caching system runs Linux. Microsoft chose to use it. Who cares?

I don't know...

The first three comments about Linux were spelled three different ways.

:roflmao: One week, Microsoft claims superior security to Linux, due to being closed source.  But once the chips are down...

;-) Actions speak louder than words, I think.  Microsoft will have a hard time living this down.

Um, Linux is not the issue here - obviously some Linux nut is finding material to wank over hard to find.

Microsoft chose akamai or wateva they are called *purely* because 1) They already exist so Microsoft doesnt have to create a similar system (taking time and we all know how lazy they are)  2) The akamai system is location based routing reducing DDoS load on any particular server.

At no point is there a choice by Microsoft to choose Linux, they chose akamai, regardless of what OS it uses.  If akamai used amigaOS the decision wouldnt have been swayed.  Or MonkeymadnessOS or QNX-RTOS or fishmonkeyOS

Honestly, this sort of twisted concluding that Microsoft somehow has bit the dust and decided Linux is better makes me desire the Judgement day Terminator 3 displays - great movie BTW................

I agree with Xeron.  Besides, the issue is not the flaw in Windows, it's about Denial of Service attacks.  Any server, regardless of OS, can fall prey to that.

People make a big deal out of Microsoft.com downtime, including every time the domain name points to the wrong address.  These people don't really know how the Internet works.  When my ISP changed my static IP, it took a week for me to access my site through the DNS.  There's something called TTL (Time To Live), and all that crap.

Big deal.

Besides, I can't take that article more seriously until they at least fix all their spelling mistakes.   ;-)
