Still too expensive for me.

Please try to bring prices in line with the 499Euro Pegasos G4 and Pegasos 2 G4. (And this is for 1Ghz machines, not 800Mhz).

Pegasos has sold out.

Pegasos 2 G4 is not on sale yet.

Still, lets do the sums:

499Euro is 677.660 USD

Then you have state tax, city tax, possibly on both or possibly just on the peg ( better look at what the deal sayes ).

The difference is not so large if you actualy exchange them both into the same currency.
Hate figure.

Who in their right mind would buy an AmigaOne for USD759 when you can get loads of beer for less than half the price?

Oh, and while I'm here. How long is a fish, and how much does it cost?

Pegasos G4 doesn't exist, much less Pegasos 2.

The AmigaOne is not heavily subsidised by outside sources of any kind, nor are dealer margins so microscopic that the only way they can afford to sell them is as part of a full config.

It's up to you which you buy, but please don't post nonsense.

And for $505 you get a Asus SK8N Opteron nForce3 Pro and a AMD 420. That's with shipping in the US, of course.  It's nice to be able to compare Linux boxes prices, isn't it? =)

Most of the people who think $765 is a great price for a 800mhz G4, also thought $865 was an even better price.

Hmm, and maybe for them it was...because they were selling the boards.

Now, for those of us buying the boards...such things as subsidies and dealer margins aren't our business...our business is getting a good value for the money we spend.

$765 for a G4/800mhz linux motherboard...is too much, I wouldn't spend money on it, I don't have to trust online currency calculators, because I can tell at a glance that the price is absurd, can't you?

>Now, for those of us buying the boards..

Which you aren't.

It depends on what you think you are getting with the board, if you think you are just getting a computer and an OS then fine, you shouldn't even be considering it.

If you think you are buying an opportunity to get an early chance at helping rebuild the chances of a computing experience that you prefer then maybe the value is better.

IMHO you are here at the wrong time MarkTime, I think you should be here in two or three years time IF the AOS4 becomes a small sales success and the far east company can cut prices on production runs and the prices might come down to your level of expectation.

However it seems to me that your expectations exceed the reality of the situation, which suggests you have about 3 years in which to buy whatever other platform you want, fiddle with it, get bored and either this will be a barren wasteland and we will have failed again, or it will be the same as it is now and you get another 3 years or its a success in which case its not for you.

What I don't understand, is after all you have said, is why you are still here telling us about it?
Hate figure.

Pegasos G4 doesn't exist

http://www.pegasosppc.com/g4card.php
"G4 Upgrade Cards Now Available!

A small number of Pegasos 1 / April 2 systems are available with this G4 card for 499 Euros. Please contact bbrv@genesi.lu if you are interested in this offer."

much less Pegasos 2.

So?  It's also not designed or built by Eyetech, so they have to pay Mai, the manufacturer (FIC?), and then they have to pay import duty when importing the boards to the UK.

Genesi design and manufacture their own boards in Germany.

What are you talking about?
Theyre just as expensive direct from Eyetech.

What, you mean like "Pegasos G4 doesn't exist" nonsense?
Grow up.  I said it was too expensive, which it is.
Giving a list of excuses for the high price doesn't mean zilch to the customer...

I think we've guessed the manufacturing partner is Topshine.  Mai needs to get paid for the chips, but use of the reference design should be a two-way street (Mai sells more chips, companies like Eyetech get a product); the high cost of the pre-AmigaOne Terons subsidizes the developer/design support from Mai, and perhaps manufacturing by a bigger name, like FIC.

Of course, without real knowledge, there is the chance it could be the other way around- Topshine could've done the small Teron runs, and FIC could be doing the 1,000+ unit quantities, with their larger manufacturing capabilities.  I'd think FIC would be able to do QA in-house, though, while Eyetech seemed to say they had to find a third shop to handle that.
