PPC Demo Database
« on: July 21, 2003, 10:37:38 PM »
ACGGBG and ToAks from Push Entertainment proudly presents:  The Amiga PPC Demo Database!

For a long time now, we've collected demos and tested them. We felt that this was something that the PPC users were lacking -
ONE place to find them all, including a text with requirements to make it work.
Look no further, this is the ultimate P P C  D E M O  D A T A B A S E !

@Lemp

Thanks for the effort. I'm sure it will make people get mor interested in demos in general. I hope People with PPC systems takes this work more seriously and helps to grab screenshots for the demos too (see that thread, almost no one has answered).

Cheers

yeah, screenshots would be a neat thing, yes.
There's a couple of things we need: a new webmaster with skills when it comes to SQL and PHP. Then screenshots and feedback... we WANT complaints, suggestions and ideas, comments and questions... that's what makes a site better, imho.

And what about updating Aminet so that everyone gets benefit out of it and for eternity....
Add a demos/PPC directory...

Or if you really want to add new features (screenshot ot whatever), work with the Aminet admins to upgrade Aminet....

So running your own website is illegal because Aminet exists? Gee, there's a nice idea ;-)

No, it's just redundant. Now the question is "is it better to reinvent the wheel or work together on an already existing solution".
I think there is another thread here around that talks about joint work.... :-)

Very nice! :-)

A suggestion: How about making it easier to get an overview over the requirements allready from the download page? This could be done through little icons (or text) right after the main link, one icon if it is BPPC/CSPPC, one if it works on Pegasos, one if it works on A1. And icons for OS 3.1, 3.5, 3.9, 4.0, MorphOS, (AROS? :-o), etc. And symbols for AGA, CGX, P96, WOS, PUP, W3D aswell.

Of course the "requirements" link should still be there for a more detailed description ...
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

Good work!
Anyway I agree with Elwood... Sceners could use aminet a little more so their productions don't get lost... and a directory demo/ppc would be a great addition and would help you to reduce the bandwitch requirements of your site :-)

No, I'm not saying that it's a bad thing to do a web page, just that it would be a good idea to upload these demos to aminet... I think the same about the web page with MCCs... why not include these mccs in aminet? Aminet interface is very simple, but at least you have mirrors everywhere and you can put a link to aminet instead of eating your own web space... you can do a nicer interface tahn aminet in your web and simply put links to aminet...

For example look at StormMESA, now you can't download it. It isn't in aminet and you can't download it from H&P because it isn't there :-(
And that was a famous library... what happens with all these less-known productions? They are lost forever when the little-known site dissapears or when the scenner miggy's hd brokes...

I want to say THANK YOU FOR YOUR GOOD JOB! but remember that uploading to aminet will preserve that data and if for any reason your web site dissapears you will always be able to download the files from aminet... and if you want to change your web server you will not have to upload again all the files... many sites like pouet include mirrors in addition to the local file, it won't harm your site...

Anyway even if you don't upload the files to aminet, thank you! at least the demos will become known and someone may upload them to aminet, without your web many of them would have continued unknown and probably would end up forgotten...

YES!! This really rocks!
Heheh, Toakster, I hope you didn't miss the new ppc stuff released at symphony? =)
Nice bein' first in the thanks to list. =)
And now.. some suggestions.

How about adding a forum to each demo, where we
could discuss issues about the demos, or the demos in general? pouet.net like.

It would also be great if users could upload demos.

THANKS DUDES! This site is needed!

ok i will answer this to all, and short.

the whole intention for the site was much more than this , but basically people nagged alot about files and where to download, so as a start we just put the files on, also we had no proper html coder (we did...but he backed out) , so bascially i have more or less got abit lazy as it seemed no one would help out (except the contributors and the people i forgot to thanx)

also , all tips and ideas SHOULD be in a email as that will make us abit more concentrated if you understand ..

also, please pop some critics in there if any,
and i would like to get help for non mediator systems , and how to run them on bvisions / csppc etc, the plan for the whole site wasnt meant to be mediator only, but since thats what i have now, well that was the way i could do it (since people started to help , but backed out very fast...)

beyond that i would like to get help from mediator peoples also, if they have any tricks i dont know of...

all in all i would like to yet again thank the people involved , without them this site would never have appear'd..

sorry for lamo english but i am very tired :)

as a final note , i searched and skimmed trough all the sites i could find + emailed around, and i think we only miss 2 demos/prods so far, check the wanted link to find out which.
but if u have any not on the list, feel free to tell me which one and if u have the file, send it! ...

cheers all.

pps:sorry for the long wait , read the statement above to understand why.

sorry ...lol forgot one thing , why i didnt move this to aminet , easy answer..
aminet doesnt seem to like sorting all the stuff in catagory's, ever noticed that nEW demos are put in "old" catagory's etc .

this is one of the main reasons why we opened this site, honestly it was nearly impossible to find all the files and i used ALOT of time.

cheers

pps:but if someone who admin aminet, feel free to copy all files we have at the site (with the requirment files (is included inside the archives) onto aminet in a PPC DEMOS folder.
