@bill hoggett:

My " :-o " has nothing to do with thinking of him as a saviour or anything like that. I do, however, think its good that Amiga Inc. have got someone charismatic on board. I met him at the WoA '99, and he seems like a nice guy, too. I wish him luck.

bhogget: yes i know, but you know he did actually want a special HW....now its maybe possible...

Possible, maybe, but is it desirable?

Quote
anyway i wait for an official statement on his plans and what he will do before commenting any further , but for now i think its a wise choise..

Well, I think he's being brought in to do the same job Gateway had him doing: PR.  Nothing more.

Quote
Wake up amiga again...and let it be amiga again not an EMU and not an DE thingy....

I somehow doubt the market has room for a completely different custom platform any more. Things have moved on, and the likelihood of any company, specially one as cash-strapped as Amiga, ever developing a killer machine from the ground up is less than remote.

Quote
but then again if they have money for it, they can do both....

Even if he puts his entire personal fortune into it, I doubt they would have the money for such a strategy.

Remember, Collas never delivered anything. He was liked by everyone because he had great charisma and talked everything up big. The only Amiga related thing he ever achieved was a mock-up in a glass case.

There is little doubt Amiga Inc. need a big improvement in their PR, but what they really need is some honest to goodness doers, not yet another  talker.

he is the one who said Amiga Inc (as they were then) would deliver a new OS written from scratch (but based a Linux kernel) inside five months, when they hadn't even decided what hardware it was supposed to run on.

He is also the one who walked out because gateway would not let him spend and do what he wanted. :-)

I'm surprised at the percentage of US subscribers.  Its higher than any of the European countries (except UK of course) :-)

The UK looks like a giant pac-man that just gobbles up the rest of the world...

The best part about it was when I got paid...

Well, when he walked out his role was at an end. He was brought in to keep the restless masses happy and prevent them from giving the Amiga brand a bad name while Gateway decided what - if anything - they wanted to do with it. When Gateway made their mind up, there was no need for Collas any more, so he went before he was pushed. The trouble was that everyone was so desperate to be positive about everything that they refused to see that Collas never promised anything remotely achievable, instead he blinded everyone with a glittering promise of the glorious things just around the corner.

WOW! If this is true its a real Stunner and would give me faith in AMiga inc again. I met Collas at an Amiga dev convention when he first took over. He's amazing - and i"m not some blind Amiga zealot either.
@AMIGAMAD - you are wrong. The reason Collas left Gateway is becuase he WAS DOING SOMETHING and Gateway's Big Brother M$oft leaned on them when Collas started talking Linux and a new market, etc..

bhogget: i belive that there is always room for an new amiga in everyone's house, it just need to be PERFECT ..

many hate the usage of an pc , alot more hates the ludicrus looks of an mac.
even more hate amiga ? :) ... i dunno but i certainly seem this as a good thing, i mean...if collas will get his way around the block we might see a potential success and finally amiga.inc can make money again + if jim collas could act abit more in the ways of normal laws unlike many atm..

amiga needs a new ceo and i think collas is the man, a guy who are in for it and willing to give the best..

anyway we have the amigaone now and os4 is on its way , i dont see it as a problem if just collas and co used some energy on focusing at it..

anyway the MCC was an idea, i for once belived in that, it never happened...as by then amigainc and gateway found out...nope amiga should be like they once was....MAKING GAMES only....software etc..., it might change (as its stated in buzz word) ...

i dont see why just some good news would just be another flamewar..., i like to be abit positive and since i have 1 foot inside the door means i am allowed to do so also :P (I HOPE :)))
Whats up with all the hate!

Is this listed as "rumours" or "facts"?

Will Amiga Inc let him spend what he wants? Can they spend anything at all?
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

Rumour.

It's entirely possible that this is deliberate rumour-mongering to counter the Garry Hare story, seeing how Collas is so popular with everyone.

Considering the source, it's a distinct possibility.
