Kermit and Joe's MoJoMeter Now Available
« on: June 03, 2003, 03:59:02 AM »
Joe Torre and Kermit Woodall present the MoJoMeter! The MoJoMeter turns a boring hard drive status LED into a colorful and animated analog panel meter!

Born from an idea by Kermit Woodall and the electronics design super-genius of Joe Torre, this item is the perfect accessory for case-modding fanatics!

Check it out on Kermit's retro-computing site at www.retrosystem.com where you can view more information and order it online.

I'm so glad Joe stopped wasting his time on the Boxer project and turned his attention to this.

As Amiga users we expect so little, and receive even less.

The price includes shipping to anywhere in the world remember, however I'd reworked the order page to make this clear. Thanks!

I think Kermit and Joe are on to something. Amiga users on tight budgets (no offense to my friends above) may not understand it, but styling sells!

Ferinstance, there is a bass amp company that hit the market a few years ago with decidedly different knobs and layout and a big VU instead of an LED or two, and colors that were not black or brushed metallic. In spite of their product's sonic quality and great technical specs they wouldn't have made much of a market entrance statement had it not been for The Look. The Look got them over bigtime with reviewers and early users, and so they have managed to do well in a tough market.

Well, whatever. Some people look like they are having fun, and Joe T and Kermit might be their names ; }

Technically none of those are the same as the MojoMeter and both of the VU-Meter based ideas are far more simplistic - but still require a decent knowledge of working with electronics.

The MoJoMeter is complete - it's not a kit, you just plug it in. It's a more advanced design and doesn't require any fiddling around and trying different parts to get things right.

Sure - you could invest over $20 in parts and make something similar. Why? We've done it for you - so you don't have to spend time doing it yourself.

However if anyone else is offended that Joe and I have done something cool and want to sell them - feel free to post.

Kermit

I wasn't offended at all and I don't think anyone else was either.
And I agree, you and Joe have made a very cool device - like I said, I thought, "I'm having one of those", but $60 is just a bit steep for me, that's all.

I'm sure there will be plenty of takers.

No I'm not blaming Joe, I always thought the failure of the boxer was due to the specs changing several times during development combined with the time wasted trying to implement old Amiga technology in a new mobo design.

It's still a shame that someone regarded as one of the Amiga' greatest h/w engineers is only in the news for a hard disk activity monitor, however cool you think it is.
