MUI PPC ugraded!

With the Anti-aliasing, shadows, Icons etc. Amibence (or whatever it's called ;-)) is starting to look really good!
There are some flaws making the screenshot loose some points, though: The MUI arrow gadgets (yikes!) and the placement of the of the window gadgets. I can imagine myself missing them with a few pixels all the friggin' time :-)

I don't know about MUI PPC one way or another except that it is included as a part of MorphOS, and that is where the development of MUI is at this time.

Anything beyond that, would only be speculation on my part.  If you guys would like, I could try to chase Mr. Stuntz down for one of our Amiga.org interview sessions.  Hows that?

Well that's one main problem. However the
MorphOS team is working on this, it just needs a bit
more work to get around of all old limitations.

Well as you know, that's just one of many skins (I
personally don't like this skin too). However the
screenshot was more meant to show the new
functionality.

I really like having gradients on those backgrounds.. Adds nice look without lot's of bitmaps.

Based on my experiment those window gadgets should be a bit bigger.. They re  bit too small and too unnoticeble for my taste (and vision).

Indeed, MUI is not a Genesi product, the OS4 team has access to the latest sources of MUI and will be integrated in OS4 for (backwards) compatibility.

Intuition & ReAction will be boith greatly enhanced, but there are a lot of appz out there who need MUI, IBrowse for example which is shipped as part of OS4. :-)

That sounds great ... Having said that, i think its a good idea to chase those people for interviews that dont normaly get noticed as much as the Bens, Fleecys and BBRV's,  but make a huge impact on the community anyway.

I'd love to more out about MUI and its creator/maintainer....

Actualy, whilst you mentioned interviews, i think i'd love to hear from the current maintainers of Envoy. Im pretty sure i know who the distributors are, but who maintians this awsome product that so many know very little about (including me)? I had a look on the web for envoy, heaps of pages, but nothing that leads me to the maintainers... only sellers... So, yer, those two would be awsome as interviews...

I was aware of the backwards compatibility, thanx for reminding me. But are you sure Hyperion or anyone else has access to the sources and that a PPC version of MUI will be making its way for OS4?

I was under the impression that, MUI wasnt very important, and its only for backwards compat, so they would include the 68k version. That way, they support MUI apps, but they dont have to put any resources into it!!! Thats what i thought anyway. Im a bit cloudy over that however.

all enhancements Genesi made to MUI.

I'd like to see an option to change the fonts colours of the lister options located of the left (I'd like to put black backgrounds but if I do it I can't see correctly the fonts of the standard mccs listed, and of course, If I put a white background the third party components listed can't be read correctly... It would be great to be able to change that... another idea would be also to have the option of showing the fonts with an outline.

Yes, you can read it on page 21 of the OS4 feature list 1.0 from January 2003. Although this fact has been stated a few times before in some another so called "status reports" of OS4. Hyperion also mentioned a few times the LATEST version of MUI to be included (3.9 or later).

I don't remind if Hyperion ever mentioned a PPC version of MUI, but as they have access to the latest MUI codebase/repository it wouldn't be wise to compile a 68k version.

They mention a OS4 native version of latest MUI in the feature list, so we can asume that a PPC version will be included.

Well, someone should ask Stefan Stuntz about that, but when someone makes some changes/additions to the MUI codebase, everyone who has access to it benefits from the respective changes. So the latest MUI version in OS4 aswell :-)

See the Hyperion chat from Amiga Expo 2002. Ben Hermans states there that they will use the *latest* MUI source code. A transcript & the mp3 audio file should be (somewhere?) on the internet or on my HD  8-).

So I asume that they have access to the MUI repository, how can they get then the latest source code?

Yes I know. IIRC back at that time the MUI cvs server
was even down and not available...

As I said they might have access to the latest MUI
source code but as I also said I'm almost sure that
they don't have access to the enhancements the
MorphOS team makes.
