...While I'm digging into the Phoenix Lecture Series Handbook I might as well mention the
expanded definition of Developer we hold dear. We think that anybody who can contribute to the advancement of the platforms we work with is a
Developer. That means resellers, graphics artists, web and print publishers, audio/music specialists, entrepreneurs, financiers, translators, project managers, coders, User Groups, Demo Sceners, etc - they ALL contribute to the growth of healthy community and platform viability.
We are slowly building up various talent pools in all categories and the infrastructure that allows them to work well together and interact efficiently with each other. That's why we sponsored the $299 Pegasos offer, screening not only for coders, but for any type of early adopter we felt had skills that may someday contribute to the Pegasos platform's growth and health.
This offer was also extended toward people with interest in other alternative OSes besides MorphOS. Our friend AROS has gotten a machine and will get a couple more soon - along with a $1000 bounty for getting AROS running on Pegasos. Many Open Source and proprietary OSes have been or are being ported as we speak, using $299 Pegasoses. Don't be too surprised if you see QNX running on Pegasos sometime in the future, as it makes a very attractive platform for a huge list of clients and OEMs who service embedded, industrial, and medical sectors. For those reasons and others many of these other OSes are attractive too.
Thus, developers (in the expanded sense) for all these OSes are also welcome, and as we begin to make more friends in these communities, we build a larger community yet! To me this is both an exciting and daunting task! For my heart has always been with the Amiga community, and these communities are not as familiar yet. But it isn't that hard to bridge the gap. We all have common concerns, and all are trying to do something a little different culturally and technically, hoping to have a place in the sun in spite of Microsoft.
One thing is for certain: any Pegasos Reseller is going to have a lot of opportunities to sell into different markets, and to offer added value in any entrepreneurship he or she may exhibit. These are
exciting - er, interesting, er - well, I'll just have to go with that 'e' word because it actually fits here - times! At least they are for me, and for anyone who rolls up the sleeves and engages the imagination!
