Article on AmigaInput for OS 4.0 at os.amiga.com

From the viewpoint of a game programmer there is one area of the AmigaOS API, which has been behind the development of other operating systems since quite a while. I am talking about the area of the Input/Gaming APIs.

AmigaInput Article.

I think this is one of the areas where the experience of Hyperion with game porting comes in handy!

They have had quite a lot todo with DirectX, DirectInput and the Mac version so they have gotten quite a good idea on how it should be done.

This once again reaffirms my thoughts that Hyperion with the 30 programmers is the right choice for working on OS 4.

There isn't a better team to do it.  8-)

Looking good.

Did anybody else note the screenshots are interesting not only for their amigainput content, but also for the GUI skin being used?

I wonder if this is the direction they are taking with the default AmigaOS4 skin/theme.

Note the Apple-alike brushed metal background and XP-alike bright blue title bar/window borders.

IMO Its not nearly as nice as the paperblue theme posted here a while back, but its interesting nonetheless.

For compariton, the Paperblue screenshot here and the birdie/vprefs theme is on aminet here.
Cheers,

Olly

Indeed, AmigaOS needs a new API for input, however,  before speaking about any "new" API, or new feature, I would like to see AmigaOS 4 running on AmigaOne ...

And, it will not happen so ...

Better choice in Pegasos/MorphOS

Why can't they publicise upcoming features of OS4 before its out? Nothing wrong with that if you ask me. Or should film trailers be banned?!

 what on earth makes you think OS4 won't appear on the AmigaONE? Please tell me exactly where you got this inside information that OS4 won't be released for a platform being sold specifically for it?!

How can you possibly know that until you've tried both? Moreover, what on earth does your opinion of the relative merits of MorphOS and its competitors got to do with this news item?  :-?

He's just one of those people who likes to continue the crap of the last few days and tries to redirect the attention to Pegasos/MorphOS.

Hyperion is doing a fantastic job.

When we can start programming for OS 4, I really think we need a site like CodeProject.

It's great. The site is sponsored my M$ and there are tutorials on every kind of difficult( or difficult for the beginner) subjects to help coding for Windows!
Tutorials by everyone who wants to and get rated by the public.

:-)  When Steffen needed the snapshots for the article, he asked if I could do it since I was using some of the "skinning" features of the new Intuition library.  He figured that it would be more interesting that way.

No, this isn't the default theme for OS4.  I just like the brushed metal look.  So I spent a few minutes with ImageFX and changed my GUI. :-)

This plus xml config files and whatever else they are working on... It's gonna be a joy to program for this OS :-)

I just hope it comes with some cool dev tools and documents.

Also, PulsatingQuasar's CodeProject idea is a good'n. Maybe amigadev.net will be upgraded to cater for os4 software developers with some nice modern features.

If I choose to get an A1 when os4 comes out it will be because of things like this.
