AlphaSmart Transfer Utility released
« on: March 24, 2003, 09:45:41 AM »
Alphassist, an utility to transfer text between a Pegasos computer and an Alphasmart 3000, has been released today.

You will find it in the Pavilion section of my homepage.

The AlphaSmart is a "portable keyboard" highly useful for mobile writing both on the road and at home.

Originally targeted at the educational market (and mainly advertised there), a growing number of journalists and writers find the little device an invaluable companion. It is also useful for taking notes in meetings or conferences.

The AlphaSmart can be connected to any computer via PS/2 or USB where it is recognized by the computer as a keyboard. The AlphaSmart features a "send" key that "types the text back" into the computer. This works without need for software on any system including MorphOS. However, it is very slow because it emulates keystrokes.

Alphassist directly connects to your AlphaSmart via USB and downloads text into your computer much faster. Also, it allows you to send files from your Pegasos to the AlphaSmart (which is otherwise impossible).
