OpenPCI Library 1.0 released
« on: February 10, 2003, 01:14:32 PM »
The OpenPCI Library has reached v1.0 release stage.

The OpenPCI project aims to provide a generic PCI library allowing one set of drivers to be written which will work with a number of Amiga PCI solutions and systems.

OpenPCI SDK content :

- Latest openpci.library for MorphOS and AmigaOS 3.x.
- OpenPci developer documentation in txt and pdf.
- OpenPci fd, includes for SASC/GCC 68k/GCC  Amithlon/GCC MorphOS
- Latest openpci_8139.device
- OpenPciInfo : Executable + Source code for MorphOS and AmigaOS 3.x. This program displays all cards detected in your PCI Bus with a lot of information for developers.
- OpenPciDump : Executable + Source code for MorphOS and AmigaOS 3.x. This program displays in ASCII+Hexadecimal the memory (IO or Mem addr) of a PCI card (useful for debugging).

Initially, an RTL-8139 100-Mbit Ethernet card driver is included with the package.

is definitively canceled because of their poor developer
policy and their questionable attitude towards customers."

It is so obvious what they are doing,

First they plant nasty code in their drivers and now they truly want to be the ONLY PCI solution for Amiga hardware so that lets them sell cheap PCI hardware with drivers at very high premuim costs,

OpenPCI Library is a threat to Elbox so thats why they must destroy the competition at all costs,

Keep up the good work OpenPCI guys,  you really deserve some respect not like some.

Ask Elbox. You can't blame the OpenPCI team for having tried to support the Mediator. Their 'customers' (I'm one of them, too) would certainly benefit much more from such open software projects than by being held hostages with Elbox proprietary PCI and USB solutions.

Working in the business myself, I actually have to wonder if Elbox have any idea of what marketing is all about. Their hardware rules, their software sucks. I don't call this bashing or diffamation - just constructive criticism from an unhappy customer who tries to get the most for his bucks.

@Ponos2D

Actually FYI it was not just a dig at Elbox, it is so simple to see what they are doing and it totally stinks,

Amigas should have gone out of the mega expensive solutions a long time ago but no while Amiga companies can milk every single person in to paying premium for hardware they will continue to do so,

Why let me pay £10/$10 for a piece of hardware when you can charge 6x as much.

OpenPCI is not the project for Mediator users.
The point of this project is to spread drivers available for Mediator to other PCI solutions.
See there.

Ah! Now i understand all. The project bring to all PCI solution the best driver exist in amiga market. The one drivers which are updated, developed are Mediator drivers. Mediator driver also support more card than prometheus and grex togheter.

Mediator support was ready... It's Elbox that didn't
want it cause it would hurt their MMCD sales.
OpenPCI is not about ripping or stealing anything...
What some brainless idiots think is that if anyone
makes a driver for an industry standard card that
Elbox already has a driver for, he's ripping off elbox'
work... It's the same idiots that attacked the only
reason they have usb on their Mediators right now:
Chris Hodges...
BTW, Elbox was actually the LAST company with a
working USB driver, not the first....
FM made his own UHCI driver for his own stack, then
ported it to Poseidon. Titan made an OHCI driver
for Poseidon. Elbox made another OHCI driver afterwards...
Now think again... Who was first?

Actually the point is to provide a universal solution where ONE driver can service all the PCI solutions available, including Mediator.

This would not have meant the Mediator drivers would have worked with everything, but it would have opened up the possibility of other people except Elbox producing drivers that worked with the Mediator.

Elbox have locked themselves out of this. Fine. It's their loss. When they start accusing people of stealing from them without a shred of evidence, that's when it gets dirty.
