Ok. To say I'm shocked is a bit of an understatement.

My email has being going crazy, and so have all the Amiga news sites from what I've seen and heard.

Its sobering to see so many people are upset about what I posted on AmiBench.

I think I'm going to have to re-consider what I said. For the next couple of days the site will remain closed. Maybe permently I'm not sure. I dont know what else I can say. I have no intention of 'handing' over the site to anyone else to run because then its just not the same.

I've had many offers of help and support and my email is going crazy.

I'm fed up with the Amiga 'Community'. Like Mark suggested, I think it's all dead like a dead snail. Let's face it, there's no community anymore, juts a bunch of arseholes who spoil the fun of dedicating one's last efforts to the Amiga.

Fed up of dumbers, fed up of Amiga vs Genesi, fed up of all this mess... :pissed:

Mark,

If you decide to stay, is there anything we can do to help AmiBench?  Whatever you decide to do, we wish you the best of luck.
Regards,
Targhan

Happy Birthday Mark. Thanks for your time on the site. Do hope you reconsider... Shame of all the work you did on it.

:-( bought my A3000 and some CD32 stuff from AmiBench adverts.  It was a wonderful alternative to the often ridiculous prices on eBay.

I have bought at least half of my amiga system through Amibench.

I'll be sad to see it go just bacause of a load of morons.

I'm sure many of the people on Aorg who spend a lot of time on the net, including myself would be pleased to lend a hand if it's needed (how do you stop a moron on such a site?).

Thanks to Mark for the years of excelent service anyhow.
Restraining orders are just another way of saying I love you!

I'm sad to see this happen.  :-(

Mark, thank you for your Amiga "commmunity" efforts and have a nice birthday regardless of such behaviours coming from a few childish individuals!  :-)

I have e-mailed Mark offering to take over his site.  As some may know I am already hosting the web chat for Amiga.org IRC...

If he does not accept the offer, I will start a new one.

Well, I must admit this suprised me at first, but after reading what Mark's had to put up with, I can't blame him. Honestly, i'm suprised *any* amiga webmasters carry on going with the current state of the 'community', but that is for another time and place.

I hope things go well for Mark, whatever his decision over the next few days is. If Amibench goes permanently, it'll be a sad loss. I am, really, a new amiga user, in that i'd never used an amiga till about 5 years ago. Thanks to amibench my 2nd hand bog standard A1200 is now boosted up to the point where I can play MP3's. I've bought a lot over Amibench, and even sold some bits. But I guess things change...
Anyway, good luck, and do what you think is best  :-)

To be honest I haven't got anything more to say. So many posters have already reflected what I wanted to say apart from who are these moron's that seem to try and divide the Amiga community? And why don't they go and play with their Micro$oft 'Doze machines and leave everyone in piece.

Thanks again and good luck for the future.

Why are people blaiming windows users?

Clearly someguy has got ripped off in to buying "PIRATE AMIGA SOFTWARE" so they have attacked the webmaster (Mark) instead of being a Adult and informing Mark and co properly,

I wonder if you people will one day understand that there is some bad people in the amiga community.

I disagree with the some of the sentiments here.

I will start with what I agree with..., the Amibench site was a public service site, and that is wonderful that Mark provided this service for a time.

But if he wishes to stop running this service that is also very fine.  I am not upset about it, nor am I particularly concerned that someone sent him 'a bad e-mail'

If you read the post that sent Mark over the top, it was a simple post asking him why he aids pirating on his site, it used some bad language.

Its similar to writing a landlord why he allows crack dealers to operate in one of his abandoned buildings.

It may not be  fair to blame Mark for the illegal activity his site enabled, but its also not entirely surprising that someone blamed him either.

I suggest that it is overly sensitive to react emotionally to an e-mail coming from a user who got robbed and is upset.  That person blew off some steam at the person they could contact.  I am sure the pirates are long gone, or just don't care.

I don't blame him one bit for quitting the site if he's tired of these things...he doesn't have to do it, and beside the services he provided are duplicated elsewhere... but on the other hand, I do not understand *at all* why anyone is acting like something unusual happened, or this is unique to the Amiga community, and such thinking.

The problem is not unique to this community...in fact it is much worse in many other communities.
