StormC 4 Special Offer
« on: February 02, 2003, 10:02:00 PM »
Glashuetten, 28. January 2003: H&P has a special offer for all Amiga developers - for just 49,95 EUR you can get the complete version of our C/C++ development system StormC 4. As there has not been much movement in the Amiga software field during the past two years we want to get find out if there is still interest in such a development system.

I don't care if they're selling it for $1.00, until they settle some agreement with Bernie about Amithlon I will never buy any H&P products.  Instead I'd use the freely available gcc which is what StormC is based on.

So coders should shell out cash to a company that takes advantage of coders?  Yeah, right....

Aaaargh! This is really annoying. On the one hand I *really* want an IDE for GCC on tha Amiga, on the other hand I don't want to give cash to H&P until they can amicably resolve their differences with Bernie...  :-(

It sucks to be an Amiga user right now...

This offer will run a limited time only - so order you copy of the development system not at the special price of 49,95 EUR.

Incidentally, because of this:

"we want to get find out if there is still interest in such a development system."

I have emailed them telling them that they would have a definate sale from me if it wasn't for the whole Amithlon situation.

I urge anyone who would DEFINATELY buy this product, but is reluctant to do so for the same reasons to email them and LET THEM KNOW that they are losing sales and why.

Now I have had no problems from H&P, I have bought the DevCD from them along with 3.5 and ROMs.  I would also like to buy Storm 4.

But I can't.

Why?  See previous posts.

H&P need to sort it out.

I had no intention of buying Bernithlon (or whatever is was to be called) yet am appalled by the actions of, what I thought was, a reputable company.

Best way for you to help resolve this ugly mess is by sending email to H&P and let them know why they are losing yet another sale because of their mistreatment of Bernd.

I do applaud those coders out there who understand if the individual coders do not stand together on this issue, they could be the next to be "bernd" by a publisher.

Had I not bought it two years ago when it was at its full price, I would pick it up now.

It's too bad what happened with Bernie and the Amithlon, but it's not going to keep me from buying future H&P products.  They did right by me with past purchases, and for that they deserve my future  patronage.

@dammy
Hopefully H&P will read this thread.  With a mail they don't like they can just delete it ( I know I do that! ).  This thread however will stay...IMHO :)

@AmiGOD
If we disregard Bernies trials and tribs for a mo'  remember also that H&P are selling unlicensed (effectively stolen/pirate) software i.e the AmigaXL package which contains Amiga Inc stuff.  Making H&P pirates and in my book a bad bunch.

No more sales from me.

tststst why can't people stick to the facts instead of
wild speculation.

Fact 1: It was AInc who forced Bernie to sign with H&P.

Fact 2: AInc spoke of a "fully licenced product" for months.

Fact 3: It has been 16 months since Amithlon went on sale,
but sofar no legal actions have been taken.

(and no whatever "supersecret" actions have been taken by AInc
didn't stop Bernie from giving up).

Fact 4: StormC is still the best way for a beginner to
start with C++ on the Amiga.

That is what is known, but not what was agreed between AInc and
H&P regarding OS3.9, OS4, Amithlon, between H&P and Bernie ....

Do I think that there will be StormC5 ? Not really.

Do I think AmithlonXL will be a step forward (if ever released) ? No.

Still doesn't change the fact that we don't know who is right and
who is wrong in this awfull mess.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

If Haage & Partner really did sell the software while knowing it wasn't licensed by Bernie, then yes, I think they did wrong.  But until they do wrong by me directly, I will not stop dealing with them.  They do and sell great products, and they have a right to sell them.  Just like you have a right to not buy them.

I do however wonder how many people boycotting H&P, have chosen to uninstall AmigaOS 3.9 from their Amigas in protest.  :-P
