WinUAE 0.8.22 Release 5 WIP
« on: January 28, 2003, 09:54:03 AM »
The WinUAE homepage has been updated with a WIP for the next release....

Bug Fixes:

Bugs fixed:

- CD32-mode media change detection
- SlowRAM detection fixes (Commando and more)
- more compatible CIA keyboard emulation (Back to the Future 2 and more)
- another bsdsocket.library emulation update
- another state restore fix
- fixed mouse problems in Space Crusade, Billy the Kid etc..
- writing to custom floppy images was unstable
- primary sound buffer-checkbox removed and disabled. It is useless and usually only caused huge slowdown problems. NOTE: Users of R3 or R4: Make sure primary sound buffer-checkbox is disabled.

New features:

- configurable boot priority and device name for regular (non-RDB) hardfiles
  and virtual directory filesystems
- FPU state file support
- more compatible Action Replay 1 support
- "Middle-Mouse-Button -> ALT-TAB" works now in fullscreen mode
- configurable keyboard leds (DF0,DF1,DF2,DF3,POWER,HD,CD)

The "WIP" in the header for R5 means that it's a Work In Progress, so the stuff they've put up there is basically to stop people from still reporting those bugs!  ;-)  hehe

I wholeheartedly agree!  After my A4000's keyboard died, I put it's harddrive into my pc, set up WinUAE, and have never looked back... and this is on a humble P3 450MHZ :-D

As I've said before, it's like the Siamese I never had  ;-)

Even the sound emulation is amazing these days.  I can play back all of my own med files, and some of them reach up to 20 odd tracks... and this isn't through AHI, this is through the paula emulation :-)

Those programmers have created an emulator that some people thought could not be created... these guys deserve a lot of warm praise and congratulations on giving us a way to play the old games and run the old applications once the final custom chip amiga dies... which, considering I've just resurrected an A600 and running Lotus III on it right now, may be a little while off yet  ;-) hehe

@cecilia

Yeah WinUAE really is becoming VERY functional, and a near perfect emulation on a modern PC.

Depending on how advanced of a user you consider yourself, and if you have legal access to ROM files or not, you may want to consider Amiga Forever. Even though I had legal ROMS and real Amigas, I bought the older version a few years back just for the ease of setup and bundled goodies. I didn't bother getting the upgrade this time because I have more time to dedicate to doing it myself, tweaking and all.
