Kyocera becomes the latest blue chip investor in Tao Group
« on: January 24, 2003, 09:17:46 PM »
Tao Group Limited today announced that it has received an investment from Kyocera Corporation, the Japanese blue chip technology corporation. Kyocera joins an impressive list of trade investors into Tao including Sony, Motorola, Mitsubishi, NEC and Sharp.

Francis Charig, Chairman and Chief Executive of Tao stated, "This is an
important strategic partner for Tao. Kyocera's thorough understanding of
the mobile space, from consumer to network, manufacturer to content
developer, makes it an invaluable addition to our investor roster. Our
relationship with Kyocera goes back several years now; it is our
intent(R) Universal Multimedia Platform that lies at the heart of
Kyocera's fabulous PocketCosmo PDA which was launched in the latter
stages of last year."

Yasuo Nishiguchi, President of Kyocera said, "We have been strongly
supporting Tao for a long time, both in terms of product and through the
Open Contents Platform Association. This investment was a natural step
forward in our relationship with Tao and indicates our strong belief in
Tao's future."

Here's a picture of Kyocera's Pocket Cosmo. This cool device runs intent non-hosted and is initially targeted at corporate users.

Neat little device...

Guess that it's not really a priority for Amiga Inc right now. They are probably hard working on some of the M$ stuff.

Another thing is that Amiga's software is not targeting the corporate market, so Smartphones and other stuff might be more interesting... :-)

Well. Considering this Kyocera thingy runs Intent and not AmigaDE (AA?) it's nothing to AmigaInc can use. Ainc would  have no control over who gets to write softwares to it and have no way on cutting $$$ from each deal.

Smartphones are interesting thingies.. But that area is quite limited until m$ gets their OS working well (and fast) enough to be considered real competitior. Not to mention M$ is losin markets on PDA:s too ...  See this .

I like the fact that the PDA runs Intent natively. I hate this "on top of" thing. I don't want AmigaAnywhere to be a content engine ON TOP OF M$ WinCE. I'd love to see it running natively.
What is AmigaAnywhere going to become anyway? A content engine, an OS on top of Intent or an as based on VP-code?
Could anybody answer this question, please. Would be nice to hear a clear statement from Amiga Inc.
